Cycling often involves varying climates and conditions throughout a ride. Your body also experiences temperature fluctuations as you transition from climbing to descending. To say cycling jackets need to be versatile is an understatement. The Gore Bike Wear Phantom SO Jacket uses smart features like removable sleeves and Windstopper technology to keep your core protected and comfortable on early- or late-season rides.
The Windstopper soft shell fabric is a single-layer laminate that's similar to Gore-Tex, but instead of being fully waterproof, it favors wind protection and breathability. This offers excellent comfort during cool-weather, highly aerobic activities. The shell is treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating for protection from light drizzles or road spray -- if you're looking for waterproofness, then check out jackets equipped with the Gore-Tex membrane .
Windstopper shines on cold rides when you plan on going hard and perspiring heavily. The fabric is soft against exposed arms, and quickly pulls perspiration from a baselayer and your skin. This keeps your core dry and helps the body regulate temperature so you can ride at max output without overheating or suffering from biting headwinds.
A jacket's material is one contributing factor to its ability to offer user comfort, but it's not the only one. Gore Bike Wear goes to great lengths to ensure that the fit is precise and function is intuitive and simple to use while riding. You'll find the Phantom Jacket to have a slim, performance-oriented fit to prevent flapping in the wind, but you won't find it restrictive. Gore added stretch inserts for freedom of movement, no matter where you find yourself positioned on the bicycle.
The Phantom's detachable, articulated sleeves also add to on-the-bike comfort by providing full coverage when stretched out in the drops. The best part is you can easily remove the sleeves, via a zip, and stash them in the slanted, easy-to-access side pockets. This is invaluable to offering the most versatility without adding weight, complexity, and gear to your ride (i.e. arm warmers).
Gore Bike Wear provided the Phantom SO Jacket with reflective logos and print on the front, back, sleeves, and sides for 360 degrees of low-light safety. The hem features elastic to prevent migration, and the front zip has a storm flap to lockout cold wind. It's available in Black, Black and White, Lemon, Neon Yellow, Pool Blue, Red, and White. The Phantom comes in sizes Small through XX-Large.
it really is! I used it last weekend here in Portland when it was about 45, and I ended up taking the sleeves off after an hour. Then I was perfectly comfortable again, very versatile and as warm in vest-mode as it was in jacket-mode. I've been wearing it for every ride this winter.
It took many years, but I finally found a great cycling jacket. The windstopper works as advertised, and the jacket keeps me warm without overheating. Yesterday I wore it on a windy road ride with temps in the low 50's with just a short-sleeve base layer underneath. I was comfortable the entire ride. By varying the base layers, this jacket should easily be able to go into the 30's. Note: the sizing chart is wrong. I usually wear L jerseys, and ended up with a L jacket, although the sizing chart said an XL should have been perfect.
Got this as a birthday gift, and I almost tried to return it because it seemed a bit too long in the rear. What a mistake that would have been - this jacket is amazing. The lighter weight windstopper fabric makes it ideal for layering, and the zip-off sleeves are great. If you only have to lose a bit of heat, the sleeve zips can double as pit zips - a nice (intentional?) design feature. The back panel is not windstopper, but a midweight jersey material that vents excess heat and moisture really effectively. Also, I love that it has three proper jersey pockets - I'm not a fan of the zippered pockets so many other jackets have.
This weekend, I was out all day in near freezing temps with only this, a midweight thermofleece jersey, and a silkweight base layer T - and I was comfy as can be.
BONUS: My riding buddy says the reflective panels make me look like a character from TRON at night. Cool.
I'm looking to buy a fall/winter riding jacket to be used
I'm looking to buy a fall/winter riding jacket to be used for 3-4 hour road rides in the 35-60 degree range. I'm trying to decide between the Phantom SO Jacket, Xenon AS Jacket and Xenon SO Jacket, and am a bit confused as to the differences. From what I can gather the Phantom is a bit looser cut (in that regard from what I can gather the Xenon may be a better cut for me -- I'm tall and skinny), and sleeves zip off, but otherwise not sure of the pros and cons of AS vs SO. I already own various base layer pieces. Thanks very much.
I tried this jacket on in a store this morning before ordering, and it is a real Medium, not a Castelli Medium. You can order your size with the confidence that it will fit properly. I had a medium on with a t-shirt, base layer, and sweater, and it fit perfectly. Layering is easy, and you don't look all puffy when properly kitted out. All in all, a great deal. As an aside, I found the jacket for $120 at the store, saw it for $74.95 on RealCyclist and ordered immediately. It of course showed up on Chainlove 6 hours later, but when I contacted RealCyclist, they gladly refunded the difference, so I ended up paying $59.99 instead - THANKS Y'ALL!! THAT is good customer service!!!
this jacket is not water-proof but is highly water resistant. The front, sides, and sleeves are all DWR coated Windstopper, so will repel most moisture, but the back has a non-membrane panel for extra breathability. It is not waterproof or resistant.
This jacket is intended for cool, windy days, and has the added versatility of removable long sleeves. It converts to a Windproof short sleeve jersey.
I've been using this jacket for a couple weeks now for both road and mountain biking and am incredibly satisfied with the product. Its construction is well-thought out and makes it versatile for a variety of temperatures.
Some of the highlights: -You can easily remove and store the sleeves in the back pockets or just zip open the sleeve/armpit area slightly for additional breathability. -Very breathable, helped by the fact that WINDSTOPPER fabric is only integrated where needed (i.e. not on the back of the jacket). -Comfortable -Lightweight -Good looking
All in all I am very happy with the product and highly recommend it.
As a disclaimer, I am affiliated with Gore for product testing of Gore-tex products for the purpose of product review and recommendation. I do receive items from Gore for these purposes, though this item I purchased on my own.
I SWORE I would NEVER, use a jacket for ANY of my riding,EVER! I was always a layer and VEST kinda guy. I felt TRAPPED in any kind of jacket i would wear. Boy, how things have changed! Through the....suggestion of a few of my riding friends,I gave this jacket a shot. In the words of infamy, why did i wait so long? This guy does it ALL! And the VERSITILITY,BUILD QUALITY,and funcionality makes it feel like i'm not wearing a jacket at all! Yes,i'm a TRUE CONVERSIONIST! If anyone out there is like i was, give this jacket a shot. I am considering either the Phantom or the Countdown. My main concern is something that is warm enough with layers or without, riding to temperatures 40 and above. I ride road and wind is also a concern. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Both the Phantom SO and Countdown SO jackets are very similar in weight, and both are WINDSTOPPER so will deal well with the wind.
The Phantom is definitely the more versatile jacket between the two, as the long sleeves zip off, turning the jacket into a short sleeve jersey with a Windstopper front.
In my experience, the Phantom over a thermal long sleeve jersey will be warm enough for you to go down to 40 degrees.

The SO stands for "SOft Shell" (as opposed to our other Windstopper designation "AS" which stands for Active Shell). This product is exactly the same as the one listed on www.gorebikewear.com.
I already had a great Capo thermal jacket, but I found myself getting too hot on rides that weren't freezing (or, more typically, rides that started out freezing and then warmed up as the ride/day progressed). This jacket has been PERFECT for a much wider range of temperatures. I can layer up underneath and still handle rides that are quite cold (though I still prefer the Capo thermal for the sub-30 degree rides), or I can wear it with only a jersey for rides that are cold, but not freezing.
The removable sleeves are worth the price alone! I've been using the jacket quite often on rides between the mid-30's to mid-40's to protect against the windchill of riding 17+ mph, then dropping the sleeves when I hit a 30+ minute climb where my body temp rises and the speed drops. The sleeves go back on at the top and I'm ready for a cold descent at 30+ mph.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the Phantom and the
Can anyone tell me the difference between the Phantom and the Phantom II. I tried the Phantom on at REI and the tag read Phantom jacket, but when I went to look on the net for one I see Phantom II. Also the one at REI was x-large and a bit tight on me, 6 foot and 193 pounds, I wear xlarge cycle jerseys and large t-shirts.
I must start off by saying that I returned this jacket, it just didn't fit me right and it slotted in poorly with my particular needs. That being said, it is probably one of the three nicest articles of cycling clothing I have ever donned.
My reason for return were twofold. 1st, the cut was a more relaxed fit than I was looking for. 6'1", 185, 32" waist and the midsection of the jacket was too loose for my liking. The arms also seemed a bit short, but I have long arms. I would have also liked more of a droptail in back. 2nd, I was planning on using this jacket as my warm jacket in the "visible jacket" category, but it wasn't warm enough for the 2.75 mile trip to work in Minneapolis on 20 degree days. I was hoping it could do double duty as a winter trainer/commuting jacket (since I don't have the money to have separate jackets), but it didn't quite fit the bill.
That being said, if you were going for a longer ride where you had time to get warmed up, it would be absolutely perfect. At least by my standards, it seems like over a longer ride it could go down pretty low temperature wise if you wore a good wool baselayer. The material is better than that of any other jacket you are wearing (especially at $75) and would be great at preventing "cold by sweat" that happens on longer rides in the cold.
Although this piece didn't work for what I wanted, I have to give it a great review because the quality is absolutely stupendous. I think the similar Xenon is what I'm looking for in fit after a bit of researching. Unfortunately, it can't be had for this price.

I would so love for this thing to be a more athletic fit. At 165#, 5'10" and 41" chest, the size chart says I'm a size L. Size L assumes that I have a ~35" waist when my waist is 32". Size L fits perfectly across my chest, but is too long and too bulky in the body. Size M is perfect length, and fits just right in the body... but is way too tight in the arm pits. Any chance this thing can be built for folks with more athletic builds? I LOVE the material and construction. I just can't get one to fit me.
Robert - Thanks for the fast response! The Xenon is a fantastic-looking jacket... exept for color choices and the significanty higher price as compared to the Phantom, I'd be all over it. Looks like it would likely work really well for me. I'll keep my eye out for one locally to see how it works. I'm willing to go the extra expense and suffer the color choice if it works!
Darell, sorry the Phantom isn't quite the right fit for you!
You may try something like the Xenon SO Jacket: http://www.realcyclist.com/gore-bike-wear-xenon-so-jacket-mens
It is a tighter, more athletically cut jacket, with similar Windstopper protection in the front, and highly breathable panel in the back. It does not convert to a short sleeve jersey, but it does have huge hidden pit vents and zip-vented wrists.
I ride in temperatures that range from mid 30's to the low 60's in the same ride. This jacket keeps me warm with the sleeves on and keeps me cool when I zip off the sleeves and unzip the front. You can also partially unzip the sleeves around the armpit for more ventilation when your body temperature gets up. Perfect for light rain too! I usually a medium but I have wide shoulders. I ordered the large and it is perfect in the shoulders and i little loose in the body but not too loose.

I am a big guy (wear XL shirts; dress shirts 17.5 neck). I have taken up commuting on a bike, about 12 miles round trip. I love it and have lost 25 pounds, and want to ride through the winter - until the temps get so could that it becomes difficult to breathe. Is the phantom the right jacket? Can I use it alone or with layers? Should I get XL or XXL for layering?
The Phantom is a great choice! It has full Windstopper long sleeves, a Windstopper front (and around the shoulders and kidneys), and a highly breathable back-panel.
It can be worn as a jacket, with layers underneath, or it can be worn directly against the skin, as a jersey. And if it warms up for your commute back home, the long sleeves can be removed and it can be worn as a short sleeve jersey with a Windstopper front panel.
As for sizing - it is a "comfort fit" piece, so will fit a little loose and should have some room for a layer or two underneath. My advice would be to measure your chest and use the sizing chart to decide if you'll go XL or XXL.
For what it's worth, I'm a medium in most things, and can wear a Medium Phantom with a light merino base layer, a long sleeve jersey, and the phantom over top. Also, speaking for myself only, I can wear the Phantom with a long sleeve merino base layer down to 35 - 40 degrees comfortably.
Haven't even worn it yet- but I was very impressed with the weight, softness and quality of this jacket. I'm 5'7" 135lb and based on the sizing chart I was almost reluctant to order a Medium as it said it was for chest sizes 35-37inches- thinking it might be too small. I like a tight race fit and have a 37" chest so I went for it. Wow- it's huge. big and baggy in the stomach area, flappy arms, even around the neck it's open for me. Rather saddened, as it's such a magnificent jacket at a great RealCyclist price- but I just can't imagine wearing it without it flapping all over the place.
Hopefully the huge focus on reflective print will keep you visible! There is super reflective print all along the sleeves, and on the lower back of the jacket.
Hit it with a flash light, and see how much it lights up!
I recently bought and have worn the Contest AS in yellow/black.
I recently bought and have worn the Contest AS in yellow/black. Recently i wore it in the rain and 50's weather. Great performance all around. I'm needing a blue jacket at about the same price point and with the same positives as the AS. Would the Phantom perform as well as the $139 AS?
The Phantom is a slightly different type of jacket - it is more highly insulated (warmer) but not full Windstopper (so not water resistant to the same level of the Contest). Read on...
The Contest is full WINDSTOPPER Active Shell, which means it is wind-proof and highly water resistant and will keep most of the rain out, as you experienced.
The Phantom is a soft shell WINDSTOPPER, and in the back it has a panel of non-WINDSTOPPER, high-moisture transfer fabric to increase breathability. This means it keeps the wind off the front of you but lets your sweat escape even faster. It also means that if it rains, the water can come in through the back.
In addition, the Phantom is also insulated, so it will keep you even warmer than the Contest, assuming it's not pouring rain!
Finally, the Phantom can convert into a Short Sleeve jersey with a WINDSTOPPER front - so you can wear it on those cool mornings when you expect it to heat up over the course of your ride!
The Phantom is our #1 best-seller world-wide - a great jacket!
totally a great jacket. my first ride with it this morning, and, although it's a bit early to tell on things like longevity and durability, this garment is excellent in all ways. i am still surprising myself when i check my blind spot as my shoulder is so bright and i feel like someone's right behind me. no. just me. really really visible me. awesome.
it's dark and cold in toronto, canada this time of year, and with a commute that jogs between paths and trails and poorly-paved and worse-lit streets, high visibility is key in a versatile and high-performance riding jacket. this one fits all bills. very windproof. very visible. very comfortable in a riding position. functional pockets to boot. wore it in 32F this morning with a wool baselayer and thermal longsleeve on top. was plenty warm.
i am 5' 8.75" with short, thick arms and medium usually fits me in american brand shirts. i'm at least a large in italian cycling jerseys and jackets, and medium in bib shorts, etc. i bought the large in yellow and it's perfect. some layering room but no flop, and enough length to stay down without riding up like my other riding jacket. great stuff, this. i look forward to many more miles with it. and the sleeves are just genius, by the way. no problem wearing a messenger backpack with the zips on the raglan seams.
I usually wear a CamelBack loaded with water, tubes, and a tire
I usually wear a CamelBack loaded with water, tubes, and a tire or two. How durable is the back panel on the Phantom? The back panel also looks like it would not be as water resistant as the rest of the jacket. Is it as water resistant or less?
The center panel on the back of the men's Phantom jacket (seen as the black area on the lemon or blue version) is the only part of the jacket that is not made of a WINDSTOPPER® material. While water will not permeate WINDSTOPPER® fabric, the material that is used is a high wicking, push pull material which is similar to that of a winter jersey and therefore is not water resistant. It should, however, be perfect for under a Camelback as it will be the very breathable. Dave - GORE BIKE WEAR®
I am extremely happy with the jacket, and I am glad that I bought this jacket. The looks are definitely deceiving - I was surprised by the ability of the jacket to ward of cold and keep the heat in during my ride on October 14, 2012 in support of the Law Enforcement community in Maryland. The 54 mile ride started at 7:30 AM at the National Harbor, through the hills in Maryland and back; it was a chilly and fairly windy morning, but I didn't feel any bit of it - Thanks to the jacket. I plan to continue my bike rides through winter now that I have the jacket!! :)) I would recommend to anyone who is planning to purchase a riding jacket to get one of this.
how waterproof is windstopper, local shops are telling friends
how waterproof is windstopper, local shops are telling friends of mine its waterproof, whereas i know that if it was, then all that gore would sell would be it.
I have a windstopper jacket, but i always put a shell overtop when it rains.
This fall weather has been very unpredictable. I am glad that I purchased this jacket in preparation for this type of weather. It stays warm in the mornings and it does an excellent job of stopping the wind. On my return home the weather has warmed up and I can remove the sleeves and stay cool. I picked the Large and the sizes appear to run small, but this is not a problem as I am losing weight. The overall fit is excellent, nice and snug and the sweat whisking is excellent.
There are so many gore jackets to choose from, I am looking for
There are so many gore jackets to choose from, I am looking for some insight on the one that will be best for me. I have read many great listings for the phantom jacket and thought that my mind was made up until I viewed this web page. I ride in Salt Lake City and I am looking for a good 30 to 50 temp jacket, i'd like to continue riding outside as long as I can into the winter. The main appeal of the phantom for me was the windstop fabric and the zip off sleeves as well as a snug fit. What others shall I consider and why?
I live in Canada and ride in October with Icebreaker garments (base and second layer) under this jacket. It is awesome! LOve it when it is cold and wet. Did I say awesome?! It will rock for your climate!
The Phantom will give you the most versatility. In the colder temps, you can add warmth through adding a midlayer such as a thermo jersey. In the warmer temps, you can just wear a baselayer underneath or even wear it against your skin. This jacket is a great buy for the money. Dave - GORE BIKE WEAR
This jacket is a real windstopper and has some inner linings that help with warmth, stays tight to the body. Highly recommend this and have been wearing it with sturdy short sleeve base, long sleeve flimsy base and then the jacket for windy weather in the 40s. I bought the Large but had to return it and get the XL, I see other people confused on the size chart. I'm just 5' 9" with slightly broad shoulders and the large was too tight in the shoulders and a little in the arms, besides I'll be layering for warmth underneath. I first bought the Lemon yellow, nice color, but on the XL I got the Neon Yellow (by mistake, my bad) and it is REALLY neon, which is better for night riding anyway.
I purchased one of these last year and rode with it as a daily commuter jacket. It is still in great condition (except for a greasy chainring mark) and going strong. Very-visible makes the wife happy :-) My motto is when you find something you like, buy two! This is good enough to live up to that motto. Good for teens (layered) to about 60F as a vest.
It can be worn for either.....it depends on if you are wearing a midlayer.....baselayer or jersey for warmer temps.....baselayer+thermo jersey (midlayer) for colder temps
The WINDSTOPPER(r) softshell will stop all wind from getting through which keeps the wind from chilling the perspiration on your body. Therefore, you tend to need less under the jacket however it is really a matter of personal preference. If you are looking for a warm winter jacket, I'd recommend the Tool as it is a fleece backed WINDSTOPPER(r) soft shell. Only downside to the Tool is that it is too warm for non-winter months whereas the Phantom is much more versatile with the removable sleeves and the ability to change its warmth through layering.
I love this jacket. The 2 zippers on each sleeve makes it possible to take the sleeves off without taking off the jacket. A brilliant design. And the Windstopper material really works well. It's great to be able to take off the sleeves and have a nice jersey. My only complaints are that the windstopper runs the full length of the sleeve but only on the outside. It splits the sleeve right down the middle. So you feel cold air coming into the inside of the sleeve. Also, the reflective material is on the inside of the sleeves, not really visible from behind or from the side. If these 2 things could be corrected this would be the perfect jacket/jersey. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars right now.
I bought this in the neon yellow for ultra visibility and it sure fits the bill. I am 6'2" and 170 lbs with pretty long arms and the large fits me just perfectly. I've worn it 5 or 6 times already and it is perfect for winter riding. I live in northern Illinois and thus needed something extra for winter rides. For below freezing I typically wear an Under Armour Base 2.0 and fitted mock t and the Phantom jacket on top. This combination has kept me nice and warm down to 20 degrees. I haven't gone out in colder temperatures than that as I'm not that mmuch of a glutton for punishment! It's a pricey item but I think it's worth every penny.
I bought the phantom last October, and rode all winter. (I ride to work unless there is a blizzard on - then I drive my Jeep.)
The first thing I noticed was the jacket's performance in wind - I could ride 2 - 3 mph faster in the same wind. It was marvelous. Of course as it got colder I added layers. And I logged miles, time, temp, wind, clothing, and comfort. I added a base layer at 40 degrees, a Garneau long sleeved cold weather shirt at 30. I was comfortable down to 20 degrees. I was cool starting out, but in ten minutes was comfortable, and in fifteen was undoing zippers to vent the heat. Below 20 degrees, sadly, I substituted another coat.
I love the Phantom - and I'm starting my second winter with it.
I wore the jacket for the first time today and I'm very impressed. By the time I got off the bike, it was 43 degrees. My upper body stayed warm, but not too warm, for the entire ride with just a very thin short-sleeve base layer under the jacket. I'm 6'1", 200lbs and I bought an XL and an XXL just in case. Both fit fine, actually, but the XXL had a bit more room in the shoulder, so that's the one I'm keeping.
Only 5'8 and about 170 and with just a base layer t shirt on the jacket felt a little snug to me; I do layers and this was a large based on the sizing chart. Will comment on the next size up when i get it next week...do like that zip off sleeve thing which adds to the verstility...can tell you that I have an LG jacket that is lightweight but the Gore felt even lighter so that will be a plus and as mentioned before the pockets and the longer tail are great features as well.
The quality and fit on this jacket is excellent. I am 5'9" at 140 pounds and I choose a medium. The medium size fits me slightly looser than the typical racing gear which is how I wanted it, so there is room for layering when things turn nasty. The rear pockets are positioned perfectly. Very comfortable and very good value for the money. Better than other jackets that cost twice as much.
I now understand why this is such a popular jacket! Excellent fit, I'm 6' 180lbs and the Large fits nice...not tight , but a comfortably snug semi race fit. I don't like my clothes flapping around while I'm riding. As far as performance, wore it this morning with temps hovering just @ 40 degrees with a base layer and it was PERFECT! Had some head wind at about 10/15mph and the Windstopper material handled it with no problem! I am very satisfied! EXCELLENT JACKET!
This jacket does what it claims. I haven't had the opportunity to test it in temps below 40 degrees yet but I am pleased with its performance so far (riding very comfortably in the 40's and 50's). I was surprised at the protection such a relatively lightweight jacket could provide. I live and ride in a coastal community and it's always windy. I'd been eyeballing the Rapha soft shell but that's way out of my league. I'm very pleased with this purchase. The short sleeve feature is a nice touch as are the 3 back pockets (although one zip pocket would have been nice). The fit is good. I am lucky, however, that I tried the jacket on in local store. If I hadn't I would have ordered the next size up given the information provided on the sizing chart (I'm 5'9" and 175 lbs. with a 42" chest and was pleased with an extra large that is somewhat fitted). The only minor complaint is that the pull on the zipper is a bit small. Also, I wish I had waited a bit longer to make the purchase as I just missed out on the Mistral Gloves free gift.
This is the nicest jacket I own. The fabric is exquisite. It was worth every dollar spent. I am 5' 11" at 180lbs. 42" chest and 34" waist and ordered the size large so it would be a closer fit like a longsleeve jersey. The fit is truly great. I could have gone with the XL, but am happy with the Large as I don't layer too much underneath. I commute to work daily, and have been riding in 28 degree temperatures the past week with this jacket. I don't have to think twice about the wind and I stay warm, but not uncomfortable. The value is remarkable on this jacket! I got the free gloves gift with the purchase of this jacket and it is composed of the same soft windstopper membrane material which is another great value at no additional cost. Realcyclist has amazing customer support in handling questions and quick changes. Overall I'm extremely satisfied, and look forward to purchasing another Gore jacket in the future.
Certainly one of the best pieces I own. In fact this was the second one I bought. Fit is great and perfect for blocking the wind. Great in the cold weather when used with a base layer as I use it 3 seasons. Best part is the removable sleeves in the late spring or early fall. Definately priced right!
I am very impressed with this jacket. I have been riding with it daily for the past few weeks. My rides are in the mornings here in Utah with temps in the 40's when I start and in the 60's by the time I am done. It is compact enough to fit easily in a jersey pocket when it warms up and the Windstopper is great when it is cold. I couldn't be happier with my choice
I love this jacket. I bought it for spring/fall riding in Jackson Hole, and I've worn it on about 5 rides so far. Today, I used it for a quick 50 mile ride in 50 degree, windy weather. Under the jacket, I wore a light undershirt, a summer bike jersey and Gore windstopper arm warmers. It was perfect. A couple days ago I wore it for a chilly morning (40 degrees) ride up the pass and took the sleeves off right before I started the ascent (had arm warmers on). It was perfect. I put the sleeves back on for the descent, which was also perfect. I think this is an extremely versatile jacket. It's not the kind of jacket that you would roll up and put in a pocket. You would be wearing it for your whole ride, taking the sleeves off if you get too warm, and unzipping if needed. Also, there are 2 zips for each sleeve, which makes it a little tricky and slow to put the sleeves back on. To make it easy, I marked my sleeves with a R & L to minimize the time my friends have to wait for me as I put the sleeves back on. I am 6'4" and about 195-200 and the XL fits me perfectly.

it really is! I used it last weekend here in Portland when it was about 45, and I ended up taking the sleeves off after an hour. Then I was perfectly comfortable again, very versatile and as warm in vest-mode as it was in jacket-mode. I've been wearing it for every ride this winter.
