Why does it seem that the cooler helmets look, the more they cost? Ask Giro the same question and you'll be surprised at the answer, because the Giro Hex brings aggro MTB styling and impact protection to the trail at a price that won't give you wallet rash. Designed for recreational riders, racers and freeriders on a budget, the Hex features in-mold construction, expanded rear protection, Roc-Loc 4 fit, a visor, and 21 vents to keep you cool under fire.
Bottom Line:
At the risk of sounding shallow, we dig the looks of the Hex as much as the bomber tech.
I use my Hex for everything but riding my DH bike. The adjustments are all easy and the retention system works well on my noggin. I've tried the Xen as well, but the shape doesn't work on my skull. The Hex is cheaper than the Xen, fits better, looks better (in my opinion), and probably protects just as well. Win!
I just wrecked really hard this past Labor day weekend and my 3 yr old Hex stood up to the beating I gave it with out much impact on my head. It is cracked now so I'm gonna be getting a new one today, thanks for the great price on a great helmet. I attached a pic of my helmet after the crash, it was a doozy.
From what I've learned about Giro and trying different models on in both bike and snowboard helmets, is they fit a little more elongated in the dome. Not a bad thing but in one man's opinion, I think it would allow for you to size down rather than up. Great helmet.
This helmet save my noggins a few times. I'm a new mountain biker and the first time I went, I flew over the handlebar and landed on my head first which was a pretty hard packed single track and I was going really fast downhill. My neck got really sore the next day, which meant that I took the hit really hard. I didn't cracked my helmet or anything. And, the second time, I fell off a cliff 30 ft down and bang my head a few times. I got bruises from the helmet around my forehead. NOTHING cracked, including my noggin. My helmet stayed on my head, the strap held up real well. I can't say enough good things about this helmet. I will definitely buy this same one or at least same brand when I need a new helmet. Great fit, great ventilation, and great protection. A little bit pricier than some, but why would you want to skimp out for something for your head? I would highly recommend this helmet.
This is my go-to lid for anything short of full-on downhill. Cross-country, freeride or whatever, if I dont need a full-face Im reaching for the Hex. The Roc Loc system makes the fit great right out of the box, and there are tons of vents to keep my head cool when its baking hot. I should also mention that its light, it looks good, and it doesnt cost a mint.
My Giro Hex helmet is possibly the best bike helmet I've ever owned. It fit great right out of the box - the Roc-Loc system really allows you to snug it down, making for an especially comfortable and secure fit (I used the sizing chart on this page to take a measurement before ordering). The helmet provides great protection - I am a big fan of how this helmet protects the back of my dome - and vents very well on hot rides; a perfect combination if you ask me. The visor is another nice feature - not only does it block the sun, it also serves as a nice little branch guard when leaning into a turn on tight singletrack.
Usually When I ride I use a Smith/troy lee full face but when cross country riding I use this lightweight gem. its a great helmet, fits nice and has massive air flow, I chose this one cause it was priced nice and is up to par for protection, venting an fit.
I've now had this helmet for over a month and I love it. It is very light weight, comfortable (comes with extra pads to fine tune the fit) & the chin strap is very easily adjusted. My head size is 59cm, I opted for the XL size and it works great. Since it has a built in size adjuster on the back, it snugs down perfectly to my head and stays in place.
I'm not gonna lie, I bought this helmet because I think it looks bitchin'. I love the way the vents look, like the air intakes on a turbocharged engine. Turns out it was a good purchase. It vents really well, even at low speeds. It's comfortable (I've worn it for 100 mile mtb races with no problems). It protects better than road helmets, without sharp points to catch on things and with better coverage on the back of the head. The vents even work particularly well with the helmet mount for my NiteRider lights. It's not the lightest, but I think it's better. I'll buy another when I destroy this one.
Great helmet fits well. Nice and breathable and great price for the product. Light weight and stays out of the way while your ripping down the trail. props to huck n roll for the quick shipping and exchanging for the right size. L
The helmet fits great. I haven't had to test the safety factor yet, fortunately. It came with a set of Giro Fader sunglasses, so that was definitely a plus on the value side. A good buy overall.
This is a great helmet. Good price, really good ventilation, adjustments are easy, fit is comfortable, ample protection. I ride confidently wearing this. Highly recommended!
The hex helmet's venting system does a good job of taking in as much air as possible during a ride. its a light weight helmet that fits well to most heads. my only problem with it was the retention system. i dial would seem more practical, and one of the two sliders doesn't move as easily as the other one, making it sometimes not sit straight
Pretty much a perfect lid. Super light and very well ventilated - important in Utah where it can often still be in the 90s out during your after work ride. The fit system is a cinch; the Hex can be snugged down in moments. I'm loving how this helmet is looking too, the all black is real sleek and doesn't have the typical egg-headed bike helmet look. I bought this for mountain biking, but I'll wear this on my to/from work commutes on the old road bike and the somewhat aggro style and visor gets me made fun of by road bikers. That's fine by me. I don't ever aspire to have roadies think I'm cool.
This helmet fits well, has good coverage, breathes just the right amount and is just ugly enough for me not to care about it getting muddy and dinged up. I have a fairly large noggin and this helmet fits great!
I purchased the matte brown and teal hex to go with my brand new blue rize 4 and was super stoked to get both of these items on the same day!! I got the bike, no problem. Then I took the helmet out of it's PINK box.....wierd. Then I looked closer and it didn't seem so weird anymore. The teal prin on the back is a FLORAL PRINT!!! You would think that it would be listed in the description but i guess not. I'm literally on the phone right now figuring this out with a supervisor and I'll let you know how they handle it. I almost feel like the ad is misleading. Hopefully they make it right. I want to ride my bike!! Other than the print, the helmet is SICKKKK
I just got off the phone and they handled the situation like pro's. Free shipping back, upgrade on the color (white, the first color i wanted), and free shipping back to me. Helmet will get to me on wednesday and i'll be back on my bike!! Great company!!! Coolest helmet on the market!!
right our of the box, this is a simple helmet to adjust, dial in a comfortable fit, and start riding. It's supremely well vented, has adequate internal padding, and fully covers my melon without feeling or looking like Toad from Mario Kart's domepiece.
I am stoked on this helmet, it is light, can adjust really easily to get snug on the dome. It raps around to cover the back of my cranium rather than sitting up high. I've used it to commute around the city and on the trail and it is a good looking helmet for sure.
Great helmet, amazing airflow, really light, great adjustable fit, looks dope. BE AWARE however, that the matte brown style has a blue floral pattern on the back section. Additionally, it comes in a pink box that says "ladies" on it. I just put some stickers over the flowers and went on with my life, but if you're not into flowery stuff and want to look cool and tough, don't buy that style...
my head measures 59cm so i was obviously torn between a medium and large.... i went with a medium b/c the large looked huge on my head!! the medium fits perfectly with the rear adjuster thing, aka. (Roc-Loc 4) open all the way so if you come in at 59cm i would go for the Medium. younger guys who are still growing... you may want to consider the large.... ovreall: great helmet, the green back looks sick!! it keeps your head very cool when riding... and straps dont seem to rub at all.
I have been riding with this helmet for 2 years. Great fit and good style. I crashed hard last week and cracked it. I liked it so much, I replaced it with another Hex. You can't go wrong with this one!
I have been using this helmet for two years, but in acid green. I crashed hard last week and cracked it. I liked it so much I decided to replace it with another Hex... this time a camo one.
I love this helmet so much--the fit is bomber, it's light and comfortable and vented, and the bonus is that you don't look like a dork when you're wearing it!
I took a lot of time trying to find the best looking helmet imo at a good price. This is what I found. Helmet fits very well, good design. The only issue I have is the under-the-chin snap lock; it's slightly uncomfortable for me, but I don't think many other people will encounter this.
I like this helmet fits my head fine. had a problem with one of the roc-loc straps coming out but giro's warranty covered it. Keeps my head cool and with roc-loc I can put a head band on and adjust it to fit my head.
This helmet vents very well. I put it on at home and just walking out to the garage I could feel it grabbing the air and cooling my cranium. Not the mention the "Chicks Dig it" factor. The adjustable ROC-LOC 4 fit keeps it nice and snug without being constricting.
Its a tough world out there sometimes...and sometimes you're going to fall. Sometimes that fall is going to be on your head...either full-on or a glancing blow...let me say that the Giro Hex besides looking awesome (mine is the Camo and I already had the matching bandana!) this brainbucket is a real winner! Light-weight but really well constructed and all the adjustment points to make it fit me personally with enough room to velcro in speakers inside so I dont have to wear headphones. Not looking forward to taking a shot to the noggin...confident that this helmet can take the punch!
