Giro Athlon Helmet
The Giro Athlon was created in response to their efforts to better the hugely popular E2 Helmet. In Giro's world this is true -- make it better or don't waste the effort. Well, they didn't waste their time. The Athlon betters its predecessor by moving air more efficiently over the rider's head, and its shape has been improved by Giro's attention to "form language."
You shouldn't be surprised. Giro would never release a new helmet that didn't outperform the one that came before it. Even though the vents in the Athlon appear smaller than what you remember on the E2, Giro has improved their internal channeling to move that air over your head faster and easier. There are a total of 23 wind-tunnel-tuned vents for both intake and exhaust.
The Athlon's shape is more in tune with a human head than the E2. This is actually something we'd struggled with when checking out the E2. We liked the vents, the Roc Loc, etc, but the helmet didn't work with our aesthetic sense. It turns out that Giro felt this way too. So the shape is more organic but still has an aggressive quality about it. The Athlon also sits a bit lower on the head which helps it seem to disappear when riding.
The Athlon uses Giro's latest retention system, Roc Loc 5. The advantage over the older Roc Loc 4 is that you can make micro adjustments to the retention basket with a thumb and finger -- simply twist the ratcheting dial to achieve perfection. The whole system can be adjusted up and down to cradle the back of your head just as you like. Some of Giro's forward thinking gave rise to the special shape of the arms -- they allow the use of Giro's eyewear without interference, and they maintain the position of your straps so getting the helmet on is a no-muss, no-fuss affair.
The Giro Athlon Helmet is available in Black/charcoal and Matte White and in three sizes -- small, medium, and large. The visor has 15° of vertical adjustability for optimal protection/visibility, and it's removable as well. The wicking pads are durable, thanks to the welding of the cover material to the pad material, and easy to wash if they get stinky.
- 23 vents with Wind Tunnel air channel technology keep your dome from overheating
- All-new RocLoc 5 allows for quick and easy on-head adjustment
- Internal Roll Cage provides extra strength upon impact
Bottom Line:
Race-ready.

My wife loves this helmet. If only it came in a few more colors that were women-specific, it would be perfect, but the fit is nearly as good as much more expensive offerings from Giro and she likes that the visor is there for dirt rides and removable when she's on the road.
Very pleased with this purchase

Nice looking helmet in the matte finish. Sizing chart is correct. Helment comes packaged with 2 plugs to fill holes if peak is removed and larger pads for smaller head cirumferences. No replacement pads included as with the 2 previous Giro helments I've purchased but this isn't a deal breaker. Great price from Real Cyclist.

Where did you find the silver finish (i.e., not the green)?
Change me.
