Fox Racing's motocross reputation is legendary, and their all-terrain domination continues in the mountain bike arena with the Flux Helmet. Aggressive, dirt-hungry looks ride shotgun alongside superb fit, impressive ventilation and low-profile, trail-specific impact protection.
After owning several "discount" helmets, I got serious when my wife sustained a concussion from a mtn bike accident that literally BROKE apart her helmet. I know that's part of the design for absorbing energy, but not the way hers broke. I needed a helmet that would protect my noodle as I worked on building my skills and bravery, and one that would breathe enough to make riding on 95deg days a possibility. This is IT. Love this helmet so much that I bought a second, just in case I ever *ahem* damage the first one ;-P
WAY too late to help you, but might be good for others... I was in the exact same boat, and on advice of the fine folks at Backcountry, went for the L/XL. It is a fantastic fit, and does not wiggle at all. At this point, I'm glad I made the choice I did.
I know you asked for someone who owned it (which I am not) but I did buy one and it's on the way. Personally I'd size down because even if your head will fit in the smaller size it will be nice to ratchet down for fast downhills and such but if it is too loose on your head with the L/XL, you can't do anything about it and it will annoy you. If it doesn't work out for you, huck and roll does offer a 30 day unconditional return policy. Can't beat that! Safe riding!
Added peace of mind and bad ass styling. I took a nasty spill last spring and cracked my top cover at the back of my head. Afterwards I wanted to look into something that had some extension down the back of the head.
The FLUX fit the bill. It's light weight, has good ventilation and looks cool. Highly recommended.
It fits, looks, and vents better than the Xen in my opinion. Bigger, more aggressive vents in the front, but it rides lower on your head and looks less like a mushroom. The Detox system is so secure, I have started down trails with the chinstrap unbuckled and not known it until someone tells me. Wouldn't recommend it for all-out bombing (get a full-face), but I wore it in Moab's 90-degree heat and was stoked. Plus it's Fox, which everyone knows gives you +10 steez.
I have no regrets for purchasing this helmet. It fits my head perfectly, has great ventilation and makes me look like a serious biker--at least it makes me think I am, and that's all that matters, right?
Owned a Specialized and this Fox outperforms it by a mile. The skull tightening system really holds it on your head. You could pretty much ride down the mountain without the chin strap. It's lightwieght and comfortable. My head is medium size though and the chin strap needs to be tightened so much that there is a lot of exess strap hangin out. Also, during high speeds on trail I notice the air inlets whistle a bit. A great helmet overall. I would recommend this to anyone.
There's matte black, and yes, light blue/sort of wanna-be grey. If you want some sick camo designs, check out the Xen and Hex from Giro.I have the White Digi Camo Xen in my magic collection of helmets, and it is by far one of my favorites in terms of fit, function, and kickass design.http://www.backcountry.com/store/GIR0108/Giro-Xen-Helmet.htmlhttp://www.backcountry.com/store/GIR0112/Giro-Hex-Helmet.html
Great product. fast shipping no tax and no shipping charge is also a plus. I had my first big crash and I am glad I had this baby. Very Comfy and light. Love it. Thanks
This is a great helmet with a fairly low price tag. I wear this for anything from cross country rides to all mountain and light freeride. Never had any issues. I'm on my second one as I got hit by a car riding to work and had to retire the firts. It did it's job that's for sure.
It has protected my head on several occasions so far, it's a little scratched up but works great. It's comfortable, the fit system really lets you customize your fit, it has plenty of air flow and it's light.
The only issue I have with it is that if your scalp burns easily (mine does, through my hair), you'll want to wear scalp sunscreen or get one of those head sock things. I would assume this would be an issue with any helmet with good air flow though.
Giant vents in the front and better protection for the back of your head, who woulda thunk? it fits very nice and fastens to your head comfortably with the exception to where the strap connects with the helmet in the back. it doesn't attach directly to the helmet, it ties through a looped strap that is connected to the helmet, as a result you can feel a little bump on the top of your head. I know it's picky, but I shelled out a lot of money for this lid. other than that, the helmet vents well, it looks good, and offers better protection for mountain riders.
I bought one of these in 2007. Have ridden it hard the last 3 years so I bought a new one a few weeks ago. On my second ride with the new helmet up to my favorite trail I took a freak header on a sidewalk. Don't ask what happened, I was out for a few minutes and don't remember. This helmet probably saved my life. I had to throw the new one away. It did what it was supposed too, thanks FOX. I have my 3rd one on order. Love this helmet
This is the first time I've bought a helmet sight-unseen with no initial try on or knowledge of the fit of other Fox helmets. Based on the size chart and another poster's review, I was confident that it would fit.
It's not that light in spite of the massive air vents, but that doesn't really bother me. This helmet offers great coverage for my lid and comes with a full extra set of padding. I really like how the straps don't interfere with my prescription sunglasses although they did take a good 10 minutes or so to dial in. Like others on here, I cut off the excess strapping and used a heat knife to prevent fraying.
Adjustment on the back of the helmet feels good and does not get in the way of my ponytail, which is a bonus.
Plus, it makes me look like a better rider than I am. No more mushroom head!
I can sweat like a pig and this lid keeps me cool. Only thing I don't like about it is the larger than normal vents show off my bald head, and allow sunburning inside my helmet. I started wearing a doo-rag and that seems to have solved all my problems. The adjustment strap is the best system I've ever owned
I love this helmet. Fit was perfect from just using the size charts. Ventilation in this thing is just great. Very impressed it also came with an extra set of all pads for the inside of the helmet. I definitely like the extra protection it offers in the back as it comes down a bit more than most helmets. Great buy.
Sick helmet. I like how the chin strap is a two strap system, You can really dial it in for your face. Like most high end helmets these days it has a adjustment in the rear for variety sized skulls and it is pretty solid.... for what it is. The adjustment is nice so you can wear a head sock for the decent and adjust for that size. Looks cool too.
this is my first helmet. it is very good quality fits my head well and has a lot of style. i also am a very big supporter of fox products, i personally think they are the best brand in the business. and if you choose to buy it from HUCKNROLL you will be getting the BEST service available, very nice and will answer any question you have on the phone and yes all there products they sell are top of the line... great job huck n roll it's a pleasure duing business with you!!! nick allen lafayette california
Lots of people like this better than the Giro Xen, but I found the Xen fits my bead better thank the Flux and the straps are more comfortable. I have a lot of friends who have switched to the Fox, but for me, it's not the right choice. I tried it, but you gotta get what fits and is comfortable to your dome shape.
This helmet is a great design, for a couple of reasons. As others have noted, great venting that you can especially feel when rallying downhill. Also, I wanted a helmet that covers the back of my head better. A lot of helmets on the market don't offer a lot of coverage near the bottom of your skull, and this one fits the bill. The visor pops off easy, just be aware of that. Also, there is a ton of extra strap once I fit in the S/M size helmet. I just cut the extra strap off and seared the end with a lighter so it doesn't fray. My only concern is the retention system, which has kind of an asymmetrical fit to get it to fit my head right, meaning it has to be adjusted tighter on one side for it to fit right. I was right in between the two sizes, and went smaller and it fits snug but not too tight. Overall, I think the retention system will fit but I hope it is durable in the long run when I clobber my head on the ground someday. I would highly recommend this helmet to anyone looking for a highly breathable, rear coverage helmet.
A little expensive compared to other helmets, but well worth it. Comes with two sets of pads that can be washable. Good adjustment for the rear of the head, and adjustable straps on each side. Visor and rear spoiler are replaceable, and easily removable. Well ventilated. My hat size is 7-1/2 to 7-5/8, the Large fits me well. I did try on a medium, but the sides were too narrow. I have the white/grey. White is more off white, than "pure" white.
This helmet is great, it fits well but takes some time to get it set up to you exactly. Once it is fit you won't notice it any more. I like the aggressive look of it and the venting is great.
I took a hard spill and broke my last helmet which gave me a great excuse to shell out for this bad boy. I looked at a few Giros but none of them seemed to be reviewed as highly as the Fox Flux so I went ahead and ordered one. After a few days of riding, I can safely say it is a GREAT helmet. The fit, ventilation, head cover, weight, and style are all bomber. My only concern is that while the adjustment in the back looks great, it feels a little sketchy. I'll post a picture of it as you can't see it in any of the product pix. Only time will tell how the helmet holds up but knowing fox's reputation, I'm sure it will be fine. $100 for a great helmet you hardly notice beats the heck out of a few thousand dollars spent on a hospital bill!
I've used Louie-G, Specialized and Giro and I like this Fox lid the best. It really hugs my head. It's light, secure, well ventilated and very comfortable. The straps took all of 5 minutes to get dialed in and then I was ready to roll.
It's only been on a couple rides so far and no crashes so I can't say how it will weather the weather long term but I'll report back if I have any problems - and also if I happen to land on my head while riding I'll post how well it does keeping my nugget in one piece ;)
It is a great product. It fits perfectly and it provides a great comfort in the head. It is made of great quality products. I really recommend. You cant go wrong with it.
Great coverage, excellent fit with plenty of easy adjustment, and good ventilation. This is a very comfortable helmet with MUCH better coverage and ventilation than others I've used.
The Fox Racing Flux Bike Helmet has a great shape. Giro helmets don't seem to fit my head very well. It seems like the are too tight in length. However the fox helmet is very comfortable. The padding is in all the right places and it doesn't seem to drip sweat into my eyes as much as other helmets have in the past.
Great ventilation, good fit! My head measures about 55.5 cm or 23.25 in, the S/SX size is perfect. Really like the adjustment options. Helmet is a bit heavier then you average biking helment, but not by much considering how burly it is. I has good coverage for the lower back portion of my head. I wish the visor was adjustable. I am happy with it.
Not really sure about the spoiler look, but it functions great and covers further down the back of the head. Also the rear adjusters are easy to use work well!
The fox flux is all around good. I havent taken a good fall with it yet to say how good it is for protection. It is comfortable and completely adjustable for the perfect fit and it looks good too. It vents pretty good and the vents are large so if you head is shaved like mine get a skull cap before you spend all day on the mountain or you will feel the ridicule as I did.
This is my first bike helmet and I'm glad I decided to make this purchase. The Flux fits perfectly and has basically made it a completely seamless transition for me to wearing a helmet. It vents great and has already helped shield my head from large branches that were hanging down at eye level.
Helmet is sweet.... I have a small dome and the thing fits like a glove. A little clunky looking but no more so than any other helmet I have tried. So far so good. Very breathable and has been comfortable on long rides.
I won this helmet at a race, so I haven't really tried out the competitors, but I am very impressed with it so far. The fit is excellent, the color is nice and understated (Mine is matt black), the construction is bomber, and the protection seems top notch, though I guess I won't really know till I crash :). I have a Specialized SWorks 2D helmet too, but I end up wearing the fox for everything except racing. I have had no problems with it.
I have this helmet and am VERY pleased with it! It fits very nice, no pressure points, the straps are easy to manage and it doesnt give you the mondo mushroom head look! The bottom edge is covered by the shell, the straps are mounted to each side of the helmet instead of the inside center like other helmets I have owned, this makes it easy to put on and you dont have to mess around untangling straps, it also keeps the helmet from turning on your head. I am surprised more straps arent mounted this way. They also sit flat against your face unlike the straps on my wife's Giro, her Giro straps twist and dig into your face. The ratcheting fit adjuster is really nice, it is easy to use and holds the helmet on your head very comfy! My wife's Giro helmet has similar but WAY lower quality adjusters and the Fox system is MUCH better! Fox helmet is miles ahead in quality, her Giro is going in the trash and she is getting a Fox.
I bought this helmet because the Xen was causing pressure points on my skull - no fault of the Xen, I just wore it too much/tightly. So I switched to the Flux because it has similar protection to the Xen. The Flux actually covers more of my head, like a FF without the chin coverage, but it's also significantly wider. So wide actually that I have space to fit my fingers in on each side. However, the helmet fits snugly front-to-back. So, if you have a sphere for a skull, this will fit you great, but if you're a bit more normal, it might be a tad wide. The included pads do not allow for fit customization, and the "Roc-Loc" fit adjustment in back does not compensate for the excess width. That being said, this helmet does stay on well (like other reviewers said), takes a light, and has been working for me for quite a while now. I am happy with it - I just wish Fox designed this helmet to fit MY noggin a little better.
I've owned a Specialized and Giro, and the Fox is by far the most comfortable. I love the way the protection is extended further down on the back of your head, for more coverage. The adjustments are easier to use and adjust. The one complaint I have is the visor that attaches to the front has a tendency to come off, so your riding around with on side up in the air. Other than that I swear by this helmet.
By far the best helmet I've ever owned. I've had helmets from Specialized, Giro, and, of course, Bell, and this one has by far the best fit for me. Didn't hurt that the Black Camo was on sale for $80, either. The clicker on the back sucks the helmet to my head so well that I almost don't even have to buckle the chin strap. The front straps are attached to the outer shell, too, so it stays in place - no wiggle at all.
