DAKINE does it again

I love my new DAKINE backpack. As with buying anything online you are not positive what you are going to get. I was afraid the size would not be big enough and the extra pockets would be useless. Quite the opposite. The size is perfect for anything. I travel a lot and it fits about 4 days worth of clothing and everything I need. All the pockets serve a purpose too. Weather it be work or pleasure there is a pocket for anything you have. I really think the sunglasses and cooler pocket are a nice touch as well. This is the perfect all around backpack and just what I needed.

Great for campus or the great outdoors

By:
November 6, 2010

I'm pretty picky about backpacks, and I used to get a new one pretty much every year. However, I've been using the Dakine Campus throughout four years of graduate school, which has included throwing the pack around, trekking to and around campus on foot, camping, traveling (with my 17" laptop), hiking, and hanging at the beach. This is one of the most user-friendly packs I've ever had. The different pockets make it easy to separate books, electronic devices, supplies, and other wares. The support from the straps is also incredible - when I'm traveling, I usually have my 20 lb laptop in the case inside (the protection is great - no problems in over 200 train trips between Portland and Seattle), several books, food, beverages, clothing and makeup. Despite the 30+ pounds I'm carrying on my back, the straps distribute the weight evenly and make it feel as though there is about half the amount of weight. While it has worked perfectly for campus and traveling, I've also found it extremely helpful when either hiking or on an outing to the beach. There's plenty of room for a change of clothes, snacks for 2-4 people, and the insulated cooler is awesome - actually keeps food/drinks hot or cold. Comes in handy when you want to sit down and have a snack and cool water during a day of hiking, or when you're relaxing in the sun and want to enjoy a fresh, cool beer - the cooler section can fit a six pack of cans no problem. Overall, this pack is extremely utilitarian, looks good, and is of high quality. I couldn't recommend it more.

What size laptop will the bag accommodate? I currently have a 17" which I carry in a Swiss Army bag. But unfortunately it is starting to rip at the zipper seams because it's really only made for a 15" laptop.

My son is a rising 6th grader and his school requests drawstring

My son is a rising 6th grader and his school requests drawstring bags rather than backpacks because the pack needs to fit inside the school desk during classes. Drawstring bags stink! What are the dimensions of this pack? Would it be a good alternative? Thanks.

The dimensions of the bag are 20" H x 13" W x 9" D. Would it be a good alternative? I wouldn't be able to say with out knowing the size of the desk sorry.

This backpack is perfect... It is big enough to hold your textbooks, as well as your hoodie, beanies, laptop, pet orangutan, crotch rocket, sleeping cot... everything. it has a really lo-profile look/feel to it as well. the cooler pocket is really nice, you can throw a drink in there and it magically becomes cold (i wish). It is super durable so you can shred, skate, or even surf if you wanted too, and it doesn't tear, or get wrecked. i love this backpack... does everything i need it too, and more!

Bob, nope, not waterproof but you could always add a rain cover over it. Most packs are not waterproof until you get into some high end models.

Bought for my 12 year old son. He think the colors are so cool and loves all the compartments. All of his school books fit, his gym uniform and his lunch box. Great choice. Durable and rugged.

Up to 15". And there's a section for asking questions right under the review one in case you didn't know.

I really like this backpack. It is great for a college setting. One thing I wish I had was more protection for your laptop. But overall I really enjoy this backpack.

Nice Pak!

I got this for school since my old backpack hurt my shoulders to much. It feels great on my back and holds my other stuff nicely. I only wish there was another big compartment to divide my books a little more....but I think I will survive!
