As washed-up bike couriers, we wish we’d had the super-stretchy and breathable Cutter Tech Knickerbocker to tackle dedicated rush filings in the soggy Seattle weather. Carry your U-lock (a.k.a. ‘enforcer’) in the back pocket and forget about skipping it across the pavement around a corner. When the sky decides to tinkle on your parade, be sure and thank the Nylon Stretch Softshell material for its water-repelling radness. Too bad your jacket doesn’t feature the same material.
Nylon Stretch Softshell for durability and protection after you wash-out on a manhole cover
Articulated fit won’t bunch up when you’re in the saddle
Knicks, shants, man-pris, three-quarter trousers--whatever the hell you wanna call 'em to better assert or justify your masculinity to the opposite sex, these are your new go-to shorts on the bike. Four-way stretch fabric is mad comfortable, and doesn't billow in the drops, thanks to a slimmer, and shorter cut.
It's clear these knicks were engineered by someone already on the saddle, as the knee articulation ensures the cuff always points down--and hits just below your kneecap, whether you're mashing, or just standing. Arguably smallish pockets are also placed for easy access, and function--celly on the left, cargo on the right.
End result is a fit and look more akin to a slim, tech short, and less like your girlfriend's Eddie Bauer capris.
* I wear a size 28/30, and the 'small' is a perfect, slim-ish fit * come pre-treated with nikwax DWR for basic water resistance * contrary to the 'Medium' and 'Large' sizes, pockets on the 'Small' sizeway are inexplicably not large enough to accommodate a u-lock (not even an evo mini)
Let the ballet dancers sweat in spandex. This Cutter knickers rock especially for long rides. Ever since this picture taken, I ordered two more of them.
I own both last year's version of these pants (color "almost black") and also this year's model (color asphalt gray). The new color is a medium gray; somewhat lighter in color than the photo. More importantly, the new pants are an inch shorter than the old version. The shorter length causes the pants to regulalry pull up over my knees when I am pedalling. Very annoying. I had to switch to a bigger size, but now the waist is so big that I have to wear a sturdy belt.
If you can get them to fit you, these are very nice pants for commuting or casual riding.
These are the 2011s so any new size availability would be the new 2012 version, which might be different, and unfortunately it will not have the 20% discount. Unless hucknroll has something up there sleeve, which seems to be quite common... your out of luck.
When the weather turns colder these are great. The fit is perfect and the fabric repels water. I picked these up on CL clearance. Wish I would have bought another pair.

Hey everyone,
I've got four pairs of these bad boys. I love 'em. I wear them even when I'm not pedaling or standing like the guy in the pic. My original two pairs (the old "Not Black" color) have slowly lost their water-repellant property. I'm sure the new ones will, too, eventually. What's the washing machine additive that supposedly restores this quality? While I'm asking, if anyone's tried that additive, can you comment on how well it worked? Thanks, all. Cheers, -Alex PS Did I mention I love these knickers?
I just got these and wore them around the house a day os so then went for a little 14 miler this afternoon in cool weather. I did wear a cycling short underneath but this short is very functional as a mid-season Irish misty run or ride go-to 3/4 pant. The material is stretchy but thick enough to give you a protective layer from the elements when you hit them, pockets the right size for your normal gotta haves, and the length is mid calf on me (Large on 5'9" frame). So far so good, will know more as I put it to use. I live in the SW and this is a perfect addition to my kit....
II got it new on GearTrade and am embarrassed at how little I paid...what a steal!
I bought these on Bonktown largely due to the great price and stellar reviews, but was a bit wary of getting knickers. They fit well, but I decided I would get much more wear out of shorts than knickers. Took them to my local drycleaner/alteration shop and for $10 they converted them to shorts. They are great for both riding and general around town wear. The fabric sheds most spills and doesn't stain easily, so great travel shorts when you want to pack light.
I love these, their comfy and useful. I like that their a little baggy, which makes walking from the bike rack to my desk in the office, a little more appropriate (versus tights). But they're not so baggy that they get hung up on the seat when mounting/dismounting, nor do they touch the chain or other dirty parts. I wish they had a full length version for the deep winter. ..although I've been wearing cycling full length tights under them.
Small size fit my 30" waist perfectly. Tough yet comfy fabric. Just the right number of pockets. Articulated knees rule. Good fit, great look. Waterproof = picks up less grime, looks clean all the time. Bonus loop with bubble snap actually comes in handy for gloves etc. Purchased on chainlove for way less than they're worth, and I'll buy a second pair if they pop up again!
I bought some of these last year (color "almost black"). The new "asphalt" model runs a little smaller. In particular, the length is an inch or two shorter than last year. I don't have real long legs, but the size medium is too small for me because the hem keeps pulling over my knee when I am biking. I had to return them for a size large (and use a sturdy belt to keep the waist secure).
Just got these and I love them! They fit true to size and are not baggy by any means. Just a good fitting pant. I am 6'2" 190 lbs and a 34" waist and the large is indeed 35 inches which is not big deal. They fit great, not too baggy, not too tight! Length is perfect! The stretchy material is awesome as well, and I am sure they will be warm! I love these pants already, stoked!

YES. if you dont then the knees look bunched up and baggy cuz they are very articulated. its not too big of a deal though. i dont walk around much at school and they are very comfortable.
my knees were warm while i ninja kicked a hijacker on the jordan parkway. punk bitch is lucky he didn't get chain whipped. plus, the fools blood didn't get through the waterproof material to my sweet merino shorts.
purchased off of one of those SAC sites. this review is for the asphalt color.
they were great when i was riding but i've sinced stopped riding and have picked up running. i wear them during the cold morning or wet runs. theyre pretty stretchy and don't look too bad. the only other running pants i could find are the spandex types... no thanks.
We can't let you know when an individual size comes back until the whole item is out of stock...sucks but were workin' on a better way here at RC, until then I will say, we don't have any on order at this time..keep checkin though the inventory changes a lot around here.
These shorts are great. You can use them for anything, road, mtn or around town. This is my 3rd pair of 3/4 shorts or knicker shorts, and these are the best ones yet. Close fitting so they are not baggy or flopping in the wind, but not too close to feel anything like roadie gear.
Disclaimer: I've only tried these on, I've yet to wear them while riding.
I wear a 32 and went with the mediums. I'm curious if the small would fit me better. These fit well enough around the waste, but are definitely more baggy than I'd prefer. I think they will be great once I'm riding though. Pockets are great, material is great.
very nice stretchy breathable fabric. the butt part doesnt really add durability because it is the same as the rest of the pants. i am 6'2'' 175 lbs 34 inch waist and these fit fine, but they seem to go a bit too far past my knees. not a bid deal really. the biggest.... PROBLEM is this:
the model in the pics is standing like that cuz if he didnt then the knees get all baggy and buch up and look weird. these pants are meant to have bent legs.
The material on these is great (not black), stretchy, breathes well and water resistant.
I normally wear a 34 waste so I ordered the Large, which is a bit bitg for me, but from the reviews I've read the mediums were too tight for 33"waist. I have to wear a belt with em to keep em from sliding off my butt.
I am 6'4" and normally wear a 34" inseam pant, when I first put these on, and I'm standing, they feel great, but when I get on the bike the hem of the knickers end up above my knee and stay there because they are somewhat tight. If you wear a 35" waist and a 32" inseam I have a pair of knickers for you (or you should order a large if you see these on bonktown).
How does this new "Stretch Nylon Softshell" compare
How does this new "Stretch Nylon Softshell" compare to the old powershield? Does it still have a membrane? How fuzzy (relatively) is the back? Is it comparably durable? Where is it made?
They're actually made in China, but the construction and durability on these is very evident--very clean seams, extra stitching where needed, and a double ass patch.
I have both pairs of cutter tech knickers. The "not black" colored version and the asphalt version don't feel like the same material. The "not black" colored version feels a bit more stretchy
I've only ridden in these to go get groceries, but they felt very comfortable. Totally stretchy and rideable, not that much more restrictive than the lyrca roadie shorts I had on underneath. Lots of pockets in good places for riding, can carry a wallet/keys/phone without it ruining my flow.
I plan on using these on the trail/road on cold/wet days or for rides to dinner/drinks/the store when I don't feel like having my junk hang out for all to see.
I've also been wearing them casually a bit, very comfy. Construction seems bomber, but I can't really say for sure after only a week of ownership,.
I just wish they were a little baggier, they are a bit more hipster fit than I would prefer, but not horribly so. Not sure I'd pay full shot for these, but they are well worth the Bonktown price.
These are great for commuting and more relaxed MTB riding. They are stretchy and I am probably between sizes (usually wear a 33 waist and I got the medium). I could have gone large and would have if I was going to use them for gravity riding since the waist button will open if I'm not wearing a belt and drop something medium sized, but for road riding I like the mediums as they are pretty snug and don't flap around. I also wear these around town since they are pretty comfy and my only pair of man-pris. 5 stars!
I normally wear a size 32, and the medium's just right. They're a slim (but not tight) fit, and the stretch is a really nice feature. I appreciate how easily I can hop on and off the bike without anything getting snagged. I'll be wearing these for my daily commute, and they look like they'll hold up well.
On my ride today, it was in the upper 80s and sunny, and I remained comfortable. They're fairly wind resistant, so I think these will perform well in cold too.
I got a change to test the water repellency the other day in a moderate rain; the water beaded up as expected. You'll still have to apply a DWR treatment after awhile though.
I had my fairly full key ring in the cargo pocket during a long ride and they hadn't bothered me at all. The other pockets are functional, though I haven't tried the U-lock strap.
grabbed off of bunktown. ive been wearing these for the past 5 days straight. oh man theyre awesome. i use to wear cargo shorts i got at target on my rides but no more. these are now my daily commuter pants. in fact, im wearing them right now.
what i dont get is the pocket layout. what the hell were they thinking when they designed the left front pocket. it has a useless smaller pocket. i would have opted for deeper front pockets with coin catchers.
there's also a rear loop with buckle. i think this is for holding a key ring. im not sure. it doesnt look very secure for holding keys.
im 5'4", 135lb, 30 waist; the S fits perfectly. in fact i could go a little looser. these are fitted on me and come about 5in below my knees.
one review on bonktown says that the S is 32"; it actually feels true to size, 30". im a 30" and wouldve like the waist to have a little more give. it's fitted on me.
I ride a bicycles a whole lot, and I wear out clothes easily. These are some of the most functional daily riding pants you can buy, and worth every penny. You won't wear a hole in your back pocket from carrying your U-Lock like you eventually will in jeans, and the material is stretchy but not too stretchy where they sag when you put stuff in your pockets. There are also a bunch of techy pockets to carry just about everything you need. Buy these, you won't be disappointed.
