It's important not to wash it with normal detergent. Use Nikwax or Penguin Performance wash. Only tumble dry low/delicate. Important to wash a couple times a year to clean the membrane of salt deposites from sweat and oil.

Also I cut off the hood and it packs inside out into the middle pocket.

Nikwax tech wash would be a good option.

Not waterproof and a critical design flaw.

By:
November 3, 2012

The positive reviews here appear to be from people who haven't yet been rained on, and who are optimistic about thinking they have picked up a proper raincoat for a rainy day.

Overall water repellency worked relatively okay for the first two very mild storms, but soaked up everything thereafter. Waterproof, this is not. There is a critical design failure, and it is a doozy; the inner liner of the rear pockets is mesh netting (imagine a square foot of the jacket's mid to lower back being made out of mosquito net), meaning the solid outer pockets collect runoff, dumping it through the jacktet onto your lower back (think contents of your jersey pockets underneath), and it pours down your butt like a sieve. Don't expect rain protection from this. Expect to get soaked, and expect to stay that way until you take it off.

Really wanted to like this because I think Cutter's products are generally pretty good, but this thing has never once kept me dry.

Hood is not storable nor removable. I tried running with the hood tucked into the jacket but it would continue to pop out due to the bouncing and the wind. Didn't try it riding mostly because I'm a fair weather rider, all weather runner.

Waterproof? Really?

By:
December 14, 2011

Good in the wind, hence the second star, BUT the back pockets don't zip (elastic) and the inside of the pocket is a mesh liner so any water that runs down your back ultimately ends up in those pockets and therefore on your back! Soaked to the socks twice before I figured it out. Talk about a design fail. Buy one and you too can thank Cutter for designing the perfect rain gutter to the crack of your a**!

If rain is in the forecast

By:
January 26, 2011

I just got this hoping it would pack well. If you work at it a little it will pack down to the size of a softball in 1 of the 3 rear pockets. As you can see in the picture it does have 3 pockets. The description say it does not have any. It will be a good jacket to pack in a jersey pocket when rain is in the forecast.

I have yet to be rained on but this jacket is sized right, is easy to pack down small and light and has worked great as a breathable wind breaker. Pockets in back are easy to use while on the bike. Reflective material with somewhat transparent fabric means I can wear bright colors underneath and be seen. The hood is large and sits well under my helmet. The hood is not removable but goes unnoticed when not worn. I would buy again.

Fantastic!

By:
October 13, 2011

I finally had a need to pull this out of my bike bag yesterday when I got caught in the rain during my commute home. This jacket delivers! Completely impermeable to wind and rain. I also like the feel of the material... it's very light and packable, but not loud and crinkly like some packable rain gear. Instead, it's like a flexible outer layer bonded to a fine cloth-like inner layer. The collar is reinforced with an additional inner cloth layer. The elastic on the cuffs and hood are strong enough to stay put without getting uncomfortable.

One note on the sizing. The zipper on this jacket is on the left side. This leads me to assume that it is in fact a women's jacket, which explains the slightly shorter arm length than expected (I'm skinny, 6ft tall and got the Medium size). However, the jacket has no gender-specific detailing, and looks good on anyone. IMO, this jacket was a phenomenal deal.

I bought two of these jackets. The tags on them call the fabric Dintex. Dintex is the membrane between the outer layer and fabric lining. It claims to be waterproof, windproof and breathable. I tested it at a snow-fest 1.5 hour bike race last weekend at a temperature of about 32 degrees. This jacket was my outer layer. It snowed the whole time. I stayed dry. Sweat escaped completely and melting snow on the outside did not penetrate the fabric. Pretty good for a very inexpensive jacket. One other thing. My race number could just barely be seen thru the fabric.

Fit is Ok

By:
May 17, 2011

This is just for the fit, I haven't gotten to use it in the rain yet (I'll let you know next fall). The fit was spot on for the Small according to the size chart. Oddly enough, the torso widths of the Small are about what a Medium would be in most other clothing, so if you normally wear a Medium then measure yourself and check the size chart. In addition, the sleeves are a little shorter than I would like, perhaps 1-1.5" shorter, but then again I'm really tall and skinny (6'2", 150lbs), so it will probably not be an issue for all.
