Crank Brothers Smarty Pedal

Item # CRN0076

The Smarty Pedal offers commuters, recreational riders, and the financially frugal access to Crank Brothers’ famous Eggbeater technology. The Smarty is a small-platform pedal like the Candy and Quattro models, with a composite body, chromoly steel spindle, and carbon steel wings to cut down on cost. It’s perfect for occasional riders who only need a base-level pedal, or for riders who want to try out the clipless thing without dropping a ton of cash.

Bottom Line:

The Smarty saves you dough. Genius!

Great for 1st Clipless-- Well worth it.

By:

I purchased a pair of these as my first ones, and shoes from chainlove-- got to try out clipless on my own bike for under $100. Never had tread interference with a Six Six One shoe.

I used these on some rough trails and to commute daily (with the clip-in clear reflector platforms, so as not to loosen them up).

They're actually lighter than many candy and egg-beater pedals, but obviously a bit more fragile as well. The tension is such that it is possible to accidentally unclip on a hard pull without twisting. Don't expect the set to come with any other changeable color rails other than the ones already on there (at least they didn't on chainlove).

Awesome Pedal, Great Price

By:

These things are great. Got mine off of chainlove for $20, and if I ever see them at that price again I'm grabbing another pair. I'm a messenger here in Denver and these are perfect. The cleats are super low profile, when I walk around I can barely tell that they're there. The clip in system works great, super easy to clip into while I'm accelerating to my next delivery. Bottom Line, I ride a fixie with no brakes so I need to know that my pedals will hold me in when they need to, after riding these for about two months now I have absolute confidence in them, and you can't beat absolute confidence for $20 bucks!

Great Pedal, Great Value

By:

For $45 bucks, you can't beat it. Light weight and much easier to clip into than an SPD pedal when your shoes are muddy. The small platform allows you to a little bit of comfort when riding on sketchy terrain or when riding with normal shoes. If you haven't made the crossover to Crankborthers yet, this is a good pedal to try out.

Decent Pedal

By:

These pedals are definitely adequate for the job. The low price is very appealing, but i would recommend to spend just a little more and get the candy model from crank brothers. Those have better bearings and will last you longer. I rode on the smarty pedals for only 4 months before the bearings went out- I ride a lot though and may have just had some bad luck with a set of bearings. chainlove.com puts them up for $19.95 every once and a while. Check it out..
