Softer than most high boots
June 26, 2012
I was looking for a snow boot that would be warm, but not too clunky and these seemed to fit the bill. They fit somewhere between a standard 3/4 hiking boot and a clunky snow boot, with benefits of both and not much negative. They lace up nicely and the laces can be pulled snug and comfy, very adjustable. So far, I tried them out on a couple flat 6-8 mile walks in mild weather and they felt great (and very toasty). I give 4 stars now, as they get their first real test in cold weather in a couple weeks, but I would certainly recommend to someone who wants to stay warm in the cold, but also wants to be able to walk several miles comfortably in them. LOVED the free 2-day shipping!
Not For Me

Bought these boots to wear during my first Iowa winter and thankfully, I was blessed with a mild one. That being said I don't think the boot was really tested. It was definitely waterproof but judging how cold my feet felt on the couple of 0 degree nights I would hate to see -65F. That's what the temp rating said on the box. I also spent extra money for heavier wool socks which helped but still I don't know how Columbia arrives at this temperature rating-definitely not with my feet! Maybe I will continue to be lucky and sees mild winters or I could always move back to the south eastern U.S. LOL!
They did wear well

Probably one of the best pair of boots I have every put on my feet. Wish I could wear them year round.

the original boot was cheaper and had better temperature ratings, it went to 65 degrees below 0 , this boot goes to 40 below, straight up fact get your expedition gear early becaus the longer you wait the newer models only get worse and cheaper
On my second pair

Honestly, this boot just f-ing rocks. I bought my first pair at a Fleet Farm in Wisconsin for my move up to Alaska. They became my everyday boot for the entire year and a half that I was there. I love the height to them and they just hug my feet and don't let go. Great tread and the warmth is awesome. Definitely not for warm or even spring weather as your feet will sweat. But for a solid pair of winter boots that are legitimately waterproof... this is it. After about 2 years of almost daily wear I finally broke down and bought another pair. The same exact model on clearance. I see they have a new design with a few tweeks but in essence it looks to be the same boot. True to size. For this price you are not going to get a better cold weather boot. Columbia got it right with these. I'm considering stockpiling just in case they ever discontinue this product. It's that good. Just buy it.
