Capo Modena Bib Short - Men's - 2011 BCS
The Capo lineup changes subtly from season to season, but the venerable Modena Bib Short and matching kit is simply too classic to be replaced. The timeless, monochromatic, double-striped graphic on the right leg band is simple and looks fast -- culling inspiration, in fact, from Italy's Modena Autodrome and the daredevil racers of yesteryear. Throwback or not, racing stripes are never out of vogue, which is probably why the Modena kit has cemented itself in the Capo catalog. Quite frankly, we couldn't be happier.
Of course, what is style without substance and function. The Modena Bib Shorts use Power Lycra with panels that wrap around the quads. This gives a subtle degree of compression that will help keep your muscles fresher for longer -- often, quite possibly the difference between suffering or sprinting at the end of a long, hard race. These are seven-panel shorts, three per leg, with a panel across the lower back. The bib upper uses Capo V-Mesh for comfort and light weight. The chamois in the Modena is the Anatomic L HD Carbon EIT Insert. This is a simple pad relative to what you find in other Capo shorts, but it's pretty sophisticated when you compare it what we used to think of as a regular chamois. First of all, it stretches -- which is not a big deal, unless you know that many pads don't stretch. It is open-cell foam bonded to a soft, anti-microbial, microfiber layer that has carbon fiber threads woven in to expedite moisture evaporation. A perineal channel for pressure relief runs front to rear between raised pads in the chamois. And, as with all EIT pads, this one is shaped as it's molded; it's designed to curve around your body, not sit flat in a box.
The Capo Modena Bib Shorts are available in Black with white stripes, and new for this year, Navy Blue with white and red stripes. Sizes run from Small to XX-Large.

I got a complete Modena kit and just love it. Simple graphic but still stylis. The short covers down to knees not half way to the thighs like some other brands.

Looks, feels and rides great. They nailed this one. With all respect to RC, my first shop, go to Art's cyclery to get one in large/black- they are the only ones with a few left!
I've had a nightmare with trying to fit my last pair of bibs
I've had a nightmare with trying to fit my last pair of bibs (LG Corsa Bib Short). I am 5'10" 185 lbs, all legs. 26" thighs, what size would you recommend for that? The last short I ordered reached its elastic limit. I'm plenty fine with lots of compression, but the other short just stopped stretching...that's bad. Any recommendations? Typically Large will work for me, though tight.

Capo bibs run tight in the thighs and hips. they are also very long. My thighs are 23 inches and the L was skin tight. Had to send back due to the length of the bibs. I am 6 feet 182 ibs. i do not think Capo will work for you.

i'm 6ft 178lbs 33 inch waist and the large is perfectly snug. legs are also the perfect length. chamois is good but was slightly uncomfortable on my last ride in them. was fine the first couple rides though.
Very high quality for the price

I ended up ordering the full Modena kit with the black shorts and white jersey. The material of the bibs is nice and thin (not cheap, but high quality wicking material) and they offer a comfortable level of compression. The big straps are not as comfortable as those by Hincapie, but they are more comfortable than the Castelli bibs I own. The chamois seems just as thick as any other pads out there - so I would think it would be plenty comfortable on century rides, which I plan on using them on. Paired with the matching jersey, the look is pretty stellar, but not over the top like some racing kit with all kinds of advertisements on them. The sizing charts are pretty much spot on and these fit me perfectly. The only way they could get better is if Capo offered a white version with black stripes.

I thought I would never switch from cycling shorts to bibs until I bought the Capo Modena Bib-Short. They look great with just enough bling to look cool. They fit like a glove, they are very comfortable, and are true to size unlike Castelli's where I have to buy a size up. I highly recommend these bibs (with the matching Modena Jersey). I used the sizing chart on the website and the bibs (and jersey) fit perfectly. Shipping was extremely good; it only took two business days to receive them here in California. From now on, I am buying my cycling apparel from Real Cyclist!
