Burton X8 Snowboard - 08/09 - 2008 BCS

Item # BUR2484

Last year the X8 Snowboard kicked off Burton's ICS system and took the snowboard world by storm. This year, the X8 continues its domination in terrain parks worldwide. The buttery soft flex, twintip shape, and high-end freestyle performance come standard, plus you can use this ride with regular bindings or go with the EST for nearly limitless stance options. Burton hooked up the X8 Snowboard with an ultra-fast sintered WFO base for speed, a Park Fly III wood core for supreme feel, and burly 10:45 sidewalls for durability. Terrain parks, city rails, powder pillows, and massive booters—the X8 Snowboard rips them all. * We can't control which color base you get. But we're confident you'll dig it. - Fall 2008.

Love it

I am an intermediate - advanced rider. I bought it on Brociety and have loved it since.

My primary board of choice is the vapor, but its lack of durability has led me to try this board out.

Lots of pop, stable at moderate speeds, can navigate chunk, pow and groomers with relative ease. Pulled off CRAZY wheelies in powder. All the groomers are great for ollies and nollies. All over the hill and can stomp any rollers I see fit. Buttering, not so much. The new models of this board are a rocker base and much better suited for that (as the mean green is a camber).

Love the EST system as you can switch the bindings quickly to powder or back to park. Got a 157, am 180 lbs and I could have gone a little shorter but the price was right.

In short, paired the board up with some basic Burton custom bindings, DC Allegiance boots (similar to the new judge) and it works just great.

Anyone know how this board is for speed and turns. All I have

Anyone know how this board is for speed and turns. All I have been hearing is that it is good in the park. I want to use it more for the mountain and that 2-3 jump down it. I weight 190lb and am thinking of getting the 160cm.

If I am to compare it to my vapor, it horrible at high speed turns. IF I was to ride it on its own, its manageable but defiantly has some chatter as its a softer wood core thats meant for park play, not ripping down the mountain full speed. If you want speed and burton, try a Custom.

Awsome ty for answer. Also, if I am 195lb would a 160cm be suitable or should I look at getting something longer. Burtons says its range is 66-89kg and i am on the border line at 88kg. My first board was a K2 160cm, but now that I have got better I am wondering if it would be worth going to like a 162-163cm.

Yes, this is a park/freestyle oriented board. NO, it is not restricted to just that- not by a long shot. The X8 features alot of Burton's high end features we see in boards like the WFO sintered base (fast) and the 10:45 sidewalls which make it easy to put the board on edge and are durable as well. I'd say if you like riding a twin board with a centered stance in pow as well as park, this will be a perfect fit. A review below mentioned it tends to get wobbly at higher speeds, but just weigh out your needs for a board and riding style, with how easy and fun the X8 is to ride, and the fact that's it's light, fast AND pressy, it's pretty much the complete package for the all-mountain freestyle rider. You'll get your money's worth.

sick board

By:
January 2, 2009

super sick board. awesome in the park, it's super soft in the nose and tail, and pretty solid in the middle. so lots of pop but still pressable and can hold a line. floats great in pow too. overall it's the best board I've ever ridden.

Its not really like a custom, but you'd probably like it. Its softer than a custom x (in flex) and it is also twin vs directional for the custom and custom x. If you ride park or for whatever reason like to ride park boards around the mountain than this would work for you. You should be able to hold a decent edge at speed too, so you definitely could use this all mtn.

Sick board. I just got mine two days ago and rode it last night. It's fast, got excellent amount of pop and good flex for presses. Gets a little wobbly at speed so takes some getting used to if you're gonna go big.

Depends on where you are at(geographically and experience wise) If your wanting to ride some serious powder then go with the Malolo or Fish, if you have a large foot(over size 11) the Supermodel has a 10mm taper as opposed to the20 mm taper that the other ones have. With that said, all mountain riding go with the Malolo or Supermodel. The x8 is center set, meaning its non directional, which BLOWS in powder.
As for the size, it is easier to spin and carve hard on a short board, however on a longer board you will have a ton more fun in the powder. You will sacrifice one for the other. For example, I ride a 156 x8 for park and a 162 Malolo on Powder days. Im 6'1, All in All the X8 is a great park board, not an all mountain board. I enjoy mine,

Nope, you can use any Burton or Forum disk bindings... (it comes with a retro compatible disk to link up any burton disk binding)

However, if you buy this board, you should definitely drop in on some BURTON EST bindings to optimize the boards unlimited stance options, board flex, and unparalleled feel!

This deck kills it!

By:
October 14, 2009

Rode this last year and will be riding it again this year. It's rated for the park and is insanely poppy and playful. I definitely wouldn't call it too heavy or stiff. The only complaint I've heard is that this is not a steeps or pow board. I can see the argument but don't totally buy it. I rode this up in Silverton several times last year and it killed every cornice, pillow, and powdery turn I could throw at it.

Burton has it listed as a 3 for feeling but it's wicked poppy bro. On a FLEX scale from 1-10 I would rate this board at a 6 or 7. It's pretty flexy! I can ollie all day long and backside/frontsides are a cake walk. Board is super light! Board safe bro!

Burton X8 can't handle Superior

By:
November 18, 2008

I purchased this board December of 2007 new. It is an excellent board and treated me very well the whole season. The ICS/Est interface is a par none. There is no plastic base in the binding, just a base cushion. The weight of the binding has been reduced significantly. Although I took a trip in Feb. 2008 and was participating in a back country excursion upto Mt. Superior (the tallest peak in the Wasatch Range thatds directly across the street from Snowbird in Utah. We ended up climbing to the top and rippin right down the middle of Superior, but at the bottom my board was delaminated. There were definitely no rocks that hit the base, due to the incredible amount of snow present. Sent the board to Burton when I got home 5 days later, and received a brand new one 7 or so days after. Prompt service! Other than that minor flaw the board is great and I recommend it to anyone who wants to make the whole mountain theirs on a fun, playful board.

Id say No. The newer version of this board is a rocker, but this years model of board is a camber. If you can already butter on a camber, then its fine. But Id listen to yule&bellow and stick with a rocker if your goal is to butter peak to base

yes it is good, but not incredible...if you are super harcore about butters, boxes and rails, then go for a scooped board (edges raised of ground 1-2 mm) like the burton fix, hero, condom, and a few others

I'm 16yrs old 140LBS. I bought an X8. This board rides awesome but after two rides it broke. Burton was great and sent me another one. First ride on it and it breaks. I'm bummed it was a lot of money. I hope Burton will refund me because I don't want another one.

The board comes with the compatibility discs to switch it to a regular binding, but the binding has to be a BURTON. Basically you can use any Burton binding you want with ICS.

If by top for mean footside, its the side with the black lines on it, the right picture of the board.Unless the changed the picture recently, the side you put your feet on, or as you say the "top" is on the left. The vertical lines are where your bindings go in. you can use this ride with regular bindings or go with the EST for nearly limitless stance options

Best Board

By:
December 31, 2008

Absolutely the most responsive setup I've ever been on. All I had to do with think about turning and it felt like the board could read my mind. Its got a fantastic amount of pop for the park and with the quick center channel, its easy to slide the bindings back for some powder runs.
