Burton No Fish Snowboard - 08/09

Item # BUR2497

Burton teamed up with BCs Noboard crew to develop the No Fish Snowboard—a powder board designed to be used without those movement-hindering binding thingies. By using a grippy pad instead of bindings, the No Fish allows you to move around and ride like you were on a surfboard. Just like the Fish, this Burton board includes a fast Sintered WFO Vision base and responsive Powder Fly II wood core. The No Fish also uses an S-Rocker to combine standard and reverse-camber shapes for a unique ride on the white waves.

Bottom Line:

Bindings? We don't need no stinkin' bindings.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

It is made for the really steep and deep. There are no bindings, just a big traction pad. It gives you a sense of surfing the powder. Really fun if you have the right conditions. If you don't like it, you can always throw a pair of Burton bindings on and rip away.

Has anyone rode this board? It seems pretty difficult to get used to. I like the backcountry idea of super mobility in your stance, but I'm not sold on this being the best choice.

You definitely won't be able to ride switch on the No Fish, or the Fish, for that matter. But for most types of all-mountain snowboards, you shouldn't have a problem. I ride an Arbor Wasteland and I have no issues riding switch. If you're still concerned, check for boards that are 'all-mountain freestyle' which will have a twin or close-to-twin shape.

Write your question here...I have never snowboarded but want to try. I was wondering if something like this might suit me better since I interchange leading with either foot when I ride my Ripstik. And prefer to. Anyone - have any idea how this would compare?

No. This thing is for BACKCOUNTRY RIDING, not for regular all-mountain riding. This means it is for riding in 3ft. deep snow, with trees, cliff, rocks, and ice patches. The no binding factor is good for backcountry because you generally don't go too fast, and don't do very deep carving turns (think almost lying down on the slope), but you do have varying terrain. This means that sometimes the snow is hard, sometimes deep, sometimes soft, sometimes shallow, sometimes its just bare ice. So, being able to shift your position back and forth will help you not sink in the deep & soft snow, and not slide out of control on the icy/hard surfaces. Basically it will take an insanely skilled rider to use this board. What you might wanna check out is a soft (read: floppy) freestyle board with a tail shaped like the nose, if you wanna ride switch. However, I would recommend getting a more neutral board (neither freestyle nor free ride, but rather "all mountain"), and getting TONS of lessons. I've snow boarded since my early child hood, and now I'm a college student, and let me tell you snowboarding is NOTHING like that ripstick; they're two different physical activities.

I've only snowboarded twice, I did'nt like having my feet attached seen as I was a skier. So I'm not a good boarder. Is this a good boar for me?

You won't be able to do near then things with this board as you will with a traditional snowboard. You just can't hold an edge nearly as well if your feet aren't attached. If you really are interested in this, I would pick up normal snowboarding also and just use this board in deep powder. You know how much harder it is to get off the lift since you aren't strapped in? This board will be like that all the time. It'll be mostly useless on groomed runs. Might also check with local resorts and see if you can even take it up with you. ****************************Stick with it and stay on a real snowboard, it's way better than skiing. Go to a local mountain and take a lesson or two, it'll help a lot. Regardless, you don't want this thing, it's harder to use than a normal board.
