Burton AK Oven Mitten - Men's

Item # BUR2884

Face it bro; you’re not invulnerable to cold fingers. You’re smart, so you choose to wear the Burton Men’s AK Oven Mitten on those days when it’s not safe to whip it out for a leak break in the trees. The low-profile design makes sliding the cuff of your jacket over the mitten easier than unzipping your fly.

  • Ultra-breathable Gore-Tex ripstop fabric keeps digits dry
  • Triple goose down fill and PrimaLoft insulation provide epic warmth
  • Hydrofil wicking, fixed-fleece, finger mitt lining keeps each finger individually wrapped like Twinkies in a box
  • Gnar Guard leather palm for grabs or grabbing a cold one
  • Super ergonomic construction promotes good dexterity for adjusting your gear

Bottom Line:

For those without furry paws.

warmest undercuff mitt-not highest quality-but recently downgraded the rating.

By:

These are the warmest undermitt glove around-atleast on backcountry.com.

I used them several days lately with temps in the morning around 0 Deg Farenheit.

The mitts are great. But there is some flaws IMO. First-Burton has placed a slit/cut for articulation in the thumb which leaves the the inner shell exposed. Consequently, this area has very little insulation. The first ride with these mitts, as soon as I gathered any decent speed I immediately felt the cold and wind penetrate the shell and immediately chilling my thumb.

In addition, the cut in the thumb creates a pocket which definitely begins to accumulate and trap ice and snow which exacerbates the cold thumb problem.

Second. Obviously Burton is not a company with a mountaineering background. That being said, this is their AK line-and to me they are not built Burly. Compared to several hestra gloves, Black diamond, Outdoor research and marmot gloves that i own these seem fragile. the shell material in spots is thin. In spots where there should be leather, there is nylon.

Ultimately, the gloves are the warmest undercuff mitt around. They are even warmer than my Hestra Seth Morrisons. That being said, im anticipating the hestra Seth Morrisons will last a lot, lot longer. Hopefully I will be wrong.

yep-just like I was afraid of, these have started to fray and the leather is stretching. Probably would not buy another pair. To bad, great concept but poor construction.

Will these gloves be too warm in 20-30 degree weather?

Yes they will. These mittens are some of the warmest if not THE warmest pari I have worn. These are filled with goose down. Super warm, and not crazy bulky. You will love these.

durability sucks

Just after one use leather on the mitts started to get off.
After 3rd use seam on a thumb (right hand) separated.
Yes, they are warm. But only for a couple of uses, because just after them mitts for $130 will be dead.
very bad.

Burton hasn't published my review on their site.

These gloves are pure warmth bliss for your hands. Unless you are a snowman and start with snow in your gloves, your hands simply wont get cold. The rodeo leather palm is a very high quality grain leather and the goretex keeps anything wet from coming in. Add the pistol grip for increased dexterity and the primaloft for warmth and you have the perfect recipe for bombproof winter hand protection. These are worth every penny.

Great warm mitten. I have the previous version of this mitten as well and it is a great product. I got this new version because I prefer an under mitt. Good buy!

These are so warm, on 30f+ days I wish I had a "normal" pair of mitts. When I shake hands with peeps on the pass, they comment on how warm my hands are. The leather palms are fantastic, will be hard to go back to synthetics for my warm weather gloves.

Mitt's a cookin'

Your lil paws will be baking like a Thanksgiving turkey in these master-mitts. Not so hot that you feel like you're in a hand-sauna, thanks to gore-tex. Gore-tex is waterproof and BREATHABLE, while this mitt is stuffed with the warmth of quality down. If you say there's a more qualified mitten out there, then I'll take mine off and show you how a warm backhand feels.

So far so good

These mitts have kept my hands warm. I have not had any issues with the leather peeling off as some users have experienced. Time will tell, but during some really cold weather - my hands were fine and usually are really cold with my other North Face Gloves.

Finally, warm hands

By:
December 19, 2011

I used the AK Oven Mitts for two days at Killington, VT. First day was about 30 degrees and the second day 18 degrees (not factoring windchill which was whipping the two days). I am not a heat producer and get cold pretty easily. After reading about all the rave reviews on the Hestra Heli Mitts, I gave those a try but they didn't do the trick even when I used hand warmers. So with the great service and recommendation from the BC folks, I got these mitts and can finally feel my fingers.

My hand measurement (width) is a 3.25 so I decided to get the mediums just to have a little more room. They fit very well even with the added space, however, when I included a liner, it ended up being a little snug. If you decide to wear a liner (which I don't think you will need) you might want to size up but if you size up and end up not using a liner then there might be too much room. Also, if your jacket has wrist-gaiters, it might be a little annoying if the gaiters aren't skin tight because it might bunch up since these are under-cuff mitts. I didn't try to fit the gaiters in the mitt, I just pushed the gaiters up into my sleeves which made taking on and off the mitts without trouble.

The mitt seem to be very solid and very warm. With all the insulation packed into it, there wasn't a huge lack of dexterity (well as much as you can get with a mitt anyways). I was a little hesitant about the individual finger slots but to my surprise didn't affect the warmth. The only time my fingers got remotely chilled was when a tiny bit of snow got into the mitt because I took them off and snow was blowing. My hands warmed up quick whenever I had to take them off and on. I wouldn't hesitate to get these again if anything happens to my current pair. Happy with my purchase and great service.

best Mitts on the market

By:
May 11, 2011

They cost a lot, but thats because they are the best. If you don't want to ever worry about your gloves freezing up on you and your hands getting wet and the glove falling apart, than you might as well throw down for these mitts. You will not be disappointed. The problem I have had with mitts in the past is the inner lining not feeling the most comfortable with my fingers, but these mitts make your fingers feel like there vacationing in Hawaii.

Im a huge fan of Burton AK gear hands down the best. Light breathable AND warm and waterproof. Cant go wrong with that combo. Great looking mitts keep you comfy in all sorts of weather, be it backcountry shredding of pipe and park slaying. I have had a pair of these in my gear bag for 2 years now and I will buy another if I ever have to. Love them.
