Black Diamond Virago Glove

Item # BLD1199

Inspired by the classic mountain work glove and built for any on-snow conditions, the Black Diamond Virago Glove features strategic insulation and a Gore-Tex membrane to seal out wet and cold weather. The tough goat leather palm and fingers provide max durability for 100-day seasons, and the four-way stretch shell keeps dexterity high. An integrated heater pocket stashes a warmer pack on extra-cold days.

Bottom Line:

The feel of a work glove with the features of a ski glove.

Warmth and dexterity

Love how simple these are to get on. Has held up really well after a season of use. Sometimes a bit too warm when temps are in the low 30s, but easily comfortable down to the upper single digits for me. Hands have always stayed dry in these - including days in the wet PNW snow.

Virago or Guide

I have been slow in picking a new cold weather glove. Got these and so far just what i wanted. Not too big of a gauntlet. And the guides always seemed a bit too stiff. The leather on these is pretty soft out of the box and is getting better each day.
I usually wear a large glove and these larges fit fine.

The Guide has a longer gauntlet, is warmer and has knuckle padding. I have the Viragos and absolutely love them. They are tough as nails, have good dexterity, but aren't as warm as the Guides. So, it really depends on what you are using them for. Hope this helps..

Loving these gloves. Have worn them between 5 and 25 and I have no complaints yet. I'm probably between a medium and large, and at first I thought I made the wrong choice, as the medium was a bit snug. But, after a few days they formed to my hands and have been perfect.

Super warm, super functional, and great dexterity. I've owned some good gloves and some crap gloves and these BD Virago's are definitely worth the 100 bucks.

The drawstring elastic seems a little chincy, and might present a problem is pulled to tight, but I've only had the gloves for two months and nothing apparent yet.

Warm, Styly, comfortable and functional. I like it.

Logan vs. BD Virago: Logan the winner!! . . . so far

By:

I bought both the Grandoe Virago and the Black Diamond Virago. I have only tried these on at home and have not ice-climbed, skied or gone up any mountains in them. Based on my initial impression, I feel the Virago is really, really nice glove that seems to be more durable and more hard-core than the Logan, but the Logan just has so much dexterity! I think they are both about the same for warmth. If I were only going to ski with the, I would keep the Virago because it looks cooler and because it has the heater pocket and because it seems slightly tougher. But since I am freaking hard-core mountain man who doesnt care about wimpy stuff like heater pockets and looks, I am going with the warm, still very tough and super maneuverable LOGAN!!! I will try to remember to write again once I really use the Logan outside in the cold, snow and ice. Thanks for listening.

Sleek Fit

By:

The glove has a real nice fit. The cuff area has really minimal protection so not sure if they really will be as warm as they claim. The sizing guide on Backcountry for these is correct, as opposed to the sizing guide on the official blackdiamond site. Very ergonomic for grabbing poles. I've got to exchange for a different size and I think the next warmest glove...gonna try the prodigy.
