Do you ever leave your headlamp behind to save weight? With the 1.6oz Black Diamond Cosmo, you'll never be caught in the dark again. This compact headlamp uses three SuperBright LEDs inside a tiltable body to light the way when your day in the outdoors runs into overtime. Powered by three AAA batteries in the front housing, the Cosmo even has a removable headband for times when you need a light, but don't need it strapped to your head.
Bottom Line:
Don't let darkness end your day. Keep going with Black Diamond's Cosmo Headlamp
This light provides you with all of the light that you need in a compact light weight unit. in a campground, you will have one of the brightest lights amongst all of the other lights. if you need more then use a large flashlight.
batteries tend to run quite long in the unit due to its efficiency. so long in fact that one should replace every so often or run the risk of the battery case cracking out the acid and ruining the light's electronics.
I love this headlamp. I bought it with backpacking and nordic skiing intentions. So far, its served its purpose well. I went on a couple of late night skis with the aide of this lamp. You wouldn't want to get into any mountainous terrain, but it provided just enough light to see the tracks in the snow and when the trail turned.
This lamp provides two lighting options. However, if you press and hold the button, you can adjust the lights to whatever your preference is. I love this versatility. I can provide enough to light to see what's going on, but not blind my fellow adventurers.
Over all a great light. It's small and durable design fits great in my pocket and is always reliable!
comfy- works great... and if you're looking for an everyday headlamp - lightweight, reliable... this is a good price. I'm sure there are reasons to spend more money... but if you don't have any extreme intentions I wouldn't spend anymore because this is a great all-around headlamp.
This thing burns crazy bright, and the awesome battery life means you can use on multi-week trips and not have to bother with extra batteries. I took it on a mountaineering trip recently, and it was easily twice as bright as my friend's Petzl Tikka headlamp, and according to the respective companies, it gets an extra hundred hours of battery life, making this a no brainer.

And the description from Black Diamonds website:
The Black Diamond Cosmo is a versatile headlamp with the size and weight of a backup light and enough power for basecamp and beyond. Two SinglePower LEDs and a strong DoublePower LED cover short- and long-range viewing with an impressive 55 lumens on max setting.
One DoublePower LED coupled with 2 SinglePower LEDs emit 55 lumens (max setting) Ultra compact batteries-in-the-front design uses 3 AAA batteries Single switch activates 3 modes plus dimming Protected against splashing or sprayed water from any angle (IPX 4)
I bought this headlamp because it had the fewest light modes I could find. I don't want to cycle through 15 options every time I need light. High and low should do it. The Cosmo has high and low, with a strobe that's activated by pushing the button three times in quick succession. Both high and low have a dimmer option as well, which is pretty cool. Once the lamp is on, you just hold down the power button until you reach the desired dimness. More features than I wanted, but smart, well-thought-out ones. I was very impressed that BD included Energizer brand batteries with the lamp, instead of generics. There may not be much of a difference, but it's a little peace of mind, regardless. For a $30 headlamp, it's exactly what I want. There are brighter, lighter, tougher headlamps out there, but for general use, I think this one does quite nicely. I also like that you can get it in white, which is much easier to find deep in a drybag or pack.
I bought this headlamp to replace an old Princeton Aura headlamp because I was going to do more long hike this summer. I used this headlamp for about 3 hours on the tail end of the Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains. The lamp is at 55 lumens which is not the top end of the scale but it is a beacon of a headlamp. The battery time is great for the small lightweight inexpensive headlamp.
It is a great light, hands down. Great for night hikes and really anything else in the dark. Black diamond makes great stuff, add this one to the list.
Plenty of light. 3 options of lighting. 1 bulb/2 bulbs/2 bulb flashing. You can also adjust the brightness, and it comes with batteries. woo hoo what a deal.
The description on the parent page is incorrect -- the Cosmo provides the option of a 0.5 watt primary LED (bright, spotlight) or 2 "superbright" LEDS (shorter range, floodlight). Have only used it for a few weeks, but appears to be a good general purpose light.
