The Siphon Men's Street Hoody incorporates technical function in an under-the-radar style—this wool-blend hoody pulls double duty as an insulating mid-layer, and a go-to jacket for kickin' it around town. A touch of wool helps the Street hold wind chill at bay, while the slightly-fitted cut and hidden thumb-holed cuffs take the bunch out of layering on wet days when you need to bust out a shell. Detailed paneling serves up a bit of urban radness, while an unobtrusive Goat logo shows the love.
Looks like I'm not the only one on here hoping this hoodie gets restocked! As stated, it feels great, fits great, and has all the right features. I'd buy one of these in each color, plus one of the heavyweight ones. Please bring it back!
I'm not a big guy, 5'9" 140lbs, so I decided to try the medium out, but got here and it was a little restricting but otherwise great hoody/mid layer. Since it was a little small, I exchanged it for a large, so order a size up. Can't wait for the snow to fly and wear this around campus for those preseason teasers!
Backcountry - what are you thinking??? Can't find this hoodie-fleece
Backcountry - what are you thinking??? Can't find this hoodie-fleece on BC.com anymore. WHY??? This is by far the most supreme hoodie-fleece of all time. Is there not another similar model? Disappointing.
I still love this shirt. Just did a 1.1 mile hike around the Tower and it was perfect for the weather. It was a beautiful sunshining day, about 32 degrees and the shirt kept me warm and wicked the moisture.
I like the style and fit which is similar to most backcountry stuff (I'm 6'2" 180 and the large fits well.) It looks good and I like the thumb holes. -- I got it on sale and I love it, but 110$ is pretty steep for a hoodie, so keep an eye on SAC or for sales.
Wearing it right now. So comfy, looks and feels like cotton, but it is so much more! Trimmer fit, long arms, I am 6'2" 180lbs and the large fits me perfectly. Go bigger on size if you want a roomier fit. I through it in the drier and it did not shrink.
This hoody is super comfy and seems to be very well built. However, there is NO WAY it is worth the regular price. This is nothing more than a nice, stylish comfy hoody. There is nothing technical about it, and I doubt it would do much for you in harsh weather. There is barely any wool in it, so it seems a little cheap that they advertise it as such. All this being said, I paid just over $30 dollars for it on SAC, which was a great deal. If you can get it for that, I think its worth 5 stars. Anything more, and you will be disappointed. Also should mention that I sized up based on some of the reviews, but I don't think it was necessary. Wash however you want...it wont shrink.
I was hoping for a little more edge to this hoodie. It's pretty much just that- a hoodie. While it performed well in spring skiing conditions, I'm generally not impressed by it's wind resistance (read: very little) or its water resistance (read: none) My largest complaint is that I've been wearing it for a week or so now, and already the fabric around the hands and neck is already piling. I'm going to trade up to the true siphon wool-blend jacket. All told though, as a hoodie, it can't be beat, but as a jacket, it needs a little something more. Fit: slim and good Design: lookin' sexy Wind and Water: mediocre to poor As a layer: pretty good
This is a great product so far, I have had it for a little more than a week and have worn it 3 days so far. It is a great layering piece. I like using the thumb holes to hold the arms in place when pulling my softshell overtop. It is thinner than the average sweatshirt but is just as warm if not warmer. I am 5' 11 3/4" 185 athletic build and purchased a Large. I must say I like the shape and cut of this sweatshirt but it could be slightly smaller. I have thought about trying the Medium but I don't want it to be to tight and restrictive. This was my first Backcountry.com product and all and all I am pleased although I would not pay more than I did for it (under $60 shipped). I am hoping to pick up more Backcountry.com products as I see them on SteepandCheap.com.....Hopefully the Welder softshell in time.
Crazy comfy. I basically live in this hoodie. Awesome material keeps the weather at bay. Chest and 2 front pockets are great for stashin whatever. Fits great and looks unbelievable. Wish you guys were still making these! i'd order at least another 2!
The best hoody I've owned yet! Has a nice tailored athletic fit that isn't baggy like other hoodies. I love having a breast pocket for my Blackberry and the zippered waist pockets are nice for my car keys when I'm out for a quick backpack-less hike in the winter. I'm 5'10" 170lbs average build and normally buy a medium but after reading others reviews I ordered a large and its a perfect fit.
Very comfortable, warm, well made, great hood, easily the best looking hoodie I own. Clearly it's made for streetwear, I knew that before I bought it and am very happy with my purchase (especially for the price!). My only complaints are: zippers could use zipper pulls cause they are so small, the hand pockets are mesh which doesn't help if you want to keep your keys in them or even your hands without gloves on. Other then that, I would like to have seen some adjustability in the bottom. I give them a 4.5 overall. I normally buy Medium, but went with a Large and it fits perfect 6'0 150lbs medium build
I just got this in XL for Christmas (denim color). It is more of a dark sea-blue than a navy, but definitely not purple. For the current price this is a buy. I really like the front zip for cold mornings as I can tuck my chin inside very easily. I took down my Christmas lights wearing this and I was plenty warm as I began. By the time the swearing and bloody knuckles began, the jacket was breathing like a son-of-a-gun. Not too warm/adjusted well. It is not windproof, so I use my softshell for cycling instead, but this works well as a layer in those conditions. I am 6', 185 and the XL fits well as a casual jacket--really not too big as some of my North Face XL's have seemed to be. I think the cut is just more slim. The thumb-holes are terrific for pulling jackets over the top. I was hoping for the black, but I'm actually pleased I got this as most of my gear is depressing in color. This "denim" is a solid choice. (Way too much information for an answer to your question I'm sure).
I bought this in May 2009 purchasing gear for an excursion on the AT and have pretty much worn the hoodie straight since then. I am 5'5 185 lbs and the medium fits me great. The pockets are deep and items do not fall out even when the zippers are open. The drawstrings of the hood are great, though I do not wear it over my head often. I am also an avid cyclist and have been riding with it around the streets of Philadelphia during the recent cold months of October and November, but it has not really stood well against the wind on its own. Works as a layer, but will not work as a stand alone on a chilly windy night.
This hoody is crazy comfy! I wear it nearly all the time (right now, for example). The materials are winner and the fit is great. Thumb hole/wrist cuff is a nice touch. Definitely would not have paid full price ($110) for it, but $40 off of SAC is WELL worth it. Only issues I have: only 10% wool, so wind proofing is not that great, mesh hand pockets (not a big deal, but not too desirable either), and no waist drawstring. I'm 6'1", about 160 lbs and the L fits perfect. Great fit for casual wear around, or a mid-layer technical-ish. Haven't washed it yet, so I can't say how that how goes. All-in-all, another great piece from BC.
Great hoody, I'm 5'11'' 185 and the XL was a good fit for me. I would never pay $109 for a hoody and you should not either. SAC price is the right price.
I'll admit I got it off SAC, not sure I'd pay full price on this item. That being said I LOVE this hoody. I've worn it a few times in mid 30's and felt fine. I just wore it as a mid layer for an alleycat where temps were in the single digits and I was toasty! The hood is a more technical fit so it fit in my shell hood perfectly. It also fit under my bike helmet. The thumb holes kept the sleeves down while I was riding and at the after bar I got comments on it's style as well. I'm 6'1" 190 and the Large fit perfectly. The mesh pockets don't bother me because if it's cold enough that you're concerned about your hands either wear gloves or put on more layers (over or under this trim-fitted piece.) 11-09 Update: I'm loving this piece so much I bought a second one (also off SAC) in blue! My Graphite (really it's black) hoodie of just under a year old has been used a TON and even though I've gone down hard twice off my bike in this thing it's only wear is a little pilling from the one time I threw it in the dryer.
I read several reviews regarding this hoodie. I am 6' 195.
I read several reviews regarding this hoodie. I am 6' 195. I have a 43" chest, 32" waist, wide shoulders, and wide back. Obviously, I think the Large would have fit fairly well, but the XL is the only remaining size in stock. Should I pull the trigger? Or will an XL be too large in the waist?
At 6'4" and 210 lbs I have a little trouble worrying about thumb loops on a sweatshirt. Up until now, I've never had sleeves get close to my thumbs. Needless to say I was thrilled to find my XXL hoodie had no trouble getting to the ends of my arms. I'll admit, I've got a little extra room in the torso, and SAC made the price better, but I love this sweatshirt.
When this jacket first came, I didn't take it off for almost a whole week. It feels great against the skin and it kept me warm on some days in the 30s just running around town. That being said, I got this for 50 bucks of steepandcheap and I would NEVER pay full price for it. I love the thing, but 110 for a mainly casual, mainly polyester hoody? You have got to be kidding me. If you can find a good deal on it, grab one quick. If not, I'm not sure this is worth it
Finally got my hands on one of these after eyeing them online for months....Fully lives up to everyone else's glowing reviews of this little piece of gear heaven. I'm 6'1, 190 lbs and was able to grab a L....I have a fairly athletic build, and like a more snug/athletic fit that Arc''teryx, backcountry/stoic do so well. Anyway the Large fits me perfectly. I know its hard to find these even anymore, but if you can track one down, especially for the discounted price, I cannot recommend it enough! I plan on living in this thing for a long time to come!
Very comfortable- Slimmer fit so I agree with Evan about sizing up if you want more room. Well worth the money. Another great item from Backcountry! My husband looks great in it!
Easily worth the SAC price but not much more. The inside feels like butter, and the techy details are nice, but wool? Where? And the outside will pill up if you're not careful with your washing. Graphite = Black. But again, on sale... buy it!
This is a well made and well designed garment, and quite comfortable. It's breathable and still highly wind resistant and warm (I just wore it on a tower during a photo shoot and it was just right). The pockets are not lumpy and have good zips, so you won't dump your keys or phone when scrambling about. I have the blue color, as it is pretty mellow and feels a little vintage. I did get a discount, so it wasn't too expensive (can't hurt to ask). It's true, that if you have a belly that you want to disguise, you might need a size up, but I wear a Large, and it's true to size as far as length, sleeves. Generally, I really like this sweatshirt.
I'd give it a 3 mostly because of the fit. The quality seems ok, but I'm not crazy about the fit. I'm 6'0 200lbs and pretty stocky I guess. This XL sweatshirt is a bit too slim fitting through the torso for my taste, but if that's the style you like, it may suit your needs. I'm not heavy in the waist or stomach, but this style might be a bit tight for anbody with a belly. The arms are plenty long and have the inner thumb hole which is a nice feature. The hood is spacious, but why the pocket linings needed to be mesh I have no idea; maybe to keep the weight down. Overall, I do like the sweatshirt, and I suppose for $50.00 on SAC it was a fair deal. Just stay clear if you prefer a loose fitting style sweatshirt.
nice styling, good fit, and warm. be forewarned that it doesn't feel like a polyester/wool blend, it feels more like a run of the mill cotton fleece. also, the thumb holes are on an inside cuff, not on the outside of the jacket. i can see the value of that, but i felt the picture was a little misleading unless you look really close. i probably wouldn't buy this if i saw in the store. the customer service guys seem really cool about the whole situation and reminded me that i can return it for a full refund at any time because of the lifetime warranty.
This jacket lives up to the BC.com name. Well built and completely comfortable. I've been wearing it ever since I snagged it on SAC. Two little complaints: The pits ride a little tight but not annoyingly so and the neck is a bit high for everyday use but is nice in cold weather. This is my new favorite jacket. Maybe not worth the full price but at a discount I would recommend it to anyone!
I'd give this product 4 out of 5. I'm 6'3" 200lbs. so the XL is a perfect fit. I like the high chin zip and the contoured fit. My one beef is that after one wash it collects these tiny lint balls that are near impossible to get off. Maybe if I used the dryer it might help but due to its wool content I'm afraid it might shrink. Even a tiny bit would ruin the fit for me. all in all...good product.
On the steeper side for price......but decent i guess? I'm not much on the sleeves down by the wrist. I have a large, I'm 5'11" 170 with pretty long arms and the sleeves seem to be made for maybe an Orangutan? Everywhere else the jacket feels true to size. I definetly would not pay full price for this. Not gonna b*tch too much as I do where the jacket alot'...plus I have to "Represent" the Goat!~
This is my goto layer for nearly everything. Warm for it's weight, fits AMAZING (6', 180lbs got a large), and looks great. Seriously, if you have a chance to grab this hoody, it's definitely worth it. I absolutely love it.
Please Please Please Backcountry, can you make this again? I've burned holes in mine and would really like a replacement...
I know that the Siphon is made for looks, but I tried it out as part of my layering system on a recent Himalayan trip. At first I wore it just around base camp, but then I ended up wearing it for a quick acclimatizing jaunt up the mountain- and was completely sold. I found the wool-poly combo worked excellently as my outer layer during moderately cold temps (around 10F, no precip)- as long as I kept moving. When it got colder or I when moving slower up high, I layered it under my down parka or shell jacket. More and more these days I try to incorporate wool into my layers for its insulation and moisture management benefits. Conclusion: Lightweight, strong tech performance, street looks = friggin' nice.
Haven't washed it yet but shocked that it is pilling up after wearing it ONCE to the airport with a down vest overtop...not much friction there. Dissapointed...
Strong...nice sweatshirt! I'm 6'4", 230 and the xl fits great. Originally ordered the Graphite, but Graphite is really more like black so sent it back for the denim. This is a nice mid-layer but not quite as substantial as I was anticipating. I thought the wool weave would make it more heavy-duty but not the case. Overall, good purchase!

As others have mentioned, this is a slim-fitting top. I am a 44R 34 waist and the Large fit well. I use this as a mid layer over a T with a lightweight R4 on top. You will need a wind-blocking layer on top of this sweatshirt if it is windy outside. Zipper is a little clunky when fully zipped and under another full zip layer (read as uncomfortable when putting your chin down). All in all this is a great layering piece and it is what it is, nothing more, nothing less.
6'4" 235, XL is a little tight around the shoulders, chest and upper back, should have went 2X, but didn't get in on time. Love the trim fit around the midsection as most XLs and larger are made for people that also have an XL stomach (which isn't always the case). Body and Arm Length is awesome and I hope this style becomes more available from BC.com. Fast shipping and great service (as usual). I'd change the pocket's interior (mesh, really?). Overall, a little tight going on but becomes comfy after a few minutes. Make more!
Has anybody ignored the washing instruction label and tossed
Has anybody ignored the washing instruction label and tossed this thing in the dryer? If so, did it shrink up, get all deformed, or pill like crazy? I wouldn't mind if it shrank a little but i don't want it to get all screwed up.
I repeatedly run this this through both the hot washer cycle and the dryer and it's just fine. I dodn't have any noticeable shrinkage and there is very, very minor pilling.
Perhaps not "like crazy" but there was some pill'age when I ran mine through the dryer for a bit. I've only washed it twice and now I air dry if it needs drying at all.
Great for everyday use around town. Not the warmest sweatshirt/zip-up hoodie I've ever owned, but perfect on cool evenings. I am 6'2" 205 and the XL is a bit snug on me so you may want to buy up a size. Overall, I am very pleased with this item and since its made by Backcountry, you know you cant go wrong.
Excellent hoody. Thinner then some but warm for its weight. Fit is great and I like it better then many other hoodies which get huge in the larger sizes when you order an XL. The XL fits me well and I am 6'1" and 180 lbs. Has protected zipper at the top which is nice to not have the zipper rub your chin when zipped fully. Well worth the money.
This lightweight zip-up developed those little fuzzy balls from wear very easily around the cuffs of both arms after just 1 or 2 times of wearing it. Other than that, great!
I would agree with Even Stevens, you could live in this shirt!!! I am 6'5" 220 lbs and I bought an XL in the graphite. The shirt fits perfect. The length is great (and I always have problems with the length on shirts. The sleeve cuff is really nice if you don't want to use the thumb holes. It is warm and comfortable. I think I am going to order another one right now. Thirty two dollars!! You can't beat that price!
www.steepandcheap.com (SAC for short)I think you'll be wanting an XL, though i'm not overly familiar with this piece. The sizing chart above should be helpful.

If this fabric didn't pill so badly I would give this hoodie the full 5 stars. It fits great I usually wear a medium in most jackets and did go with others suggestion here to go one size up (L). I wear it all the time which is why it so quickly pulled in the bumps in almost every area of the hoodie. It has plenty of warmth to keep me going even in the colorado morning cold with a shell over the top.
I'm 6'2'' 205lbs rocking out the XL fits perfect, nice athletic cut. I purchased the L but exchanged it for the XL. Very happy with the purchase. Want to get the wool version but none left.
I wear this for weeks straight...easily the best hoodie I've ever worn. It's very warm for how thin/lightweight it is (keeps me warm down to 30F), and looks very stylish as well. I really like how the thumbholes are built inside the sleeve, so when you're not using them the holes dont show. I'm 6'6" 210lbs and the XL fits me very well.
That said, I'm not sure I'd pay full price for this. I picked it up for $33 and consider that a steal. I wouldnt hesitate to pay up to $50 for this hoody.
I bought this zip-up hoodie for $35 bucks and i would say its worth that, not the original price. I', 5'9" 170 lbs and a large was perfect. The zip-up fits true to its size, not slim like some of the other posts were saying. Just buy the size you would normally buy!
As for the hoodie itself, I liked it because it has nice deep side pockets that keep stuff from falling out when driving a car as well as it looks good over another t-shirt or long sleeve. Its not incredibly thick or warm, but does the job. Its definitely not intended as outerwear in anything less than 40 degrees.
I'm 5'9" 140lbs and I got the large. It is really warm and will fit under any jacket or just by itself. I gave it 4 stars cause it fits kinda weird around the waist. It is tight around the chest to trap all the heat but flares out at the bottom...not really my style but hey its warm and functional. All in all I would buy it again if I had the option.
I truly love this hoodie. I purchased one in each color and I might purchase more if they sell additional colors. What I really like is how the thumb hole is on a recessed sleeve. I know that inside pockets were not part of the design, yet, you get extra pockets on the inside thanks to how the front pockets were sewn.
It's Warm and very comfortable. The thumb wholes are a nice touch too. It's a little bigger than other backcountry hoodies i've worn and i would have ordered a size smaller if i could have ordered again...but then again, i like my shirts to be snug. great value though.
I love it. I've worn it pretty much every day since I got it. Very comfy to just wear around, but also works really well as more than just street-wear. I wore it cross country skiing and as a mid-layer snowboarding on a really cold day and it was great. I also like that all the pockets have zippers, so nothing falls out. It's pretty slim fitting compared to a regular hoody, but I'm tall and thin so it fit me perfectly. I'm 6'1", 165lbs and I got the large.
yes, considerably high. If you look at the womens version you are able to see what it looks like fully zipped. http://www.backcountry.com/store/BCC0180/Backcountry-Siphon-Wool-Hooded-Jacket-Womens.htmlof course the cut is different.
Looking for a longer-cut hoody (i'm 6'4) and this (L) fit the bill. Nice long arms, looks great. The thumb loops kinda act like wrist gators when not in use, adds to the warmth. Fits well under my Shift jacket for some warmth under a windblock. Plus, it cost next to nothing, which is always a factor for me :)
Hey I love this zipper. The only problem is that it is to wide. I am 6'5" and a thin athletic guy. I got a size Large. Fits great at shoulder and sleeves, but at the waist its to wide. Feels really soft and warm, but does not keep wind away. Still good stuff. I like it
I'm 6'2" and 170 lb. and the L fits perfect, definitely not too baggy in the torso but enough length in the arm. The hoody is actually amazingly warm and wind resistant, given that its more of a casual item of clothing, and I end up running it all the time when temps are around freezing. My only complaint is that after 2 washings, the exterior is pretty pilled up, for the sale price though you can't beat it.
I purchased this Hoody on sale for $32.99 and I feel that I received one heck of a deal. The hoody is very warm. The thumb holes add some extra warmth when wearing the hoody by itself and without gloves. I have been wearing the hoody under my ski jacket as a mid layer and i have some pilling happening on the sleeves near the wrist areas, not too bad though. Very comfortable, awesome hood, looks great, 3 pockets, and under $35 = 4 stars. Buy one while the sale and supplies still last. Thank you BC, you guys rock!
BC, please keep making this!! Im 6'2", 220lbs and the XL fits great if you want a trim fit. I seriously wear mine almost everyday, just take it off to wash it. The fabric does pill, and thats really its only downside. Super comfy! Great articulation in the arms. Chest pocket is great for keys or a cell phone. I just may buy another before they are gone for good. Wish there was more BC.com stuff still coming out! Stoic is great, but not a big enough range yet!
I recently got this jacket and it is great. It fits well looks great. The sleeves are plenty long and it is very comfortable. It is like a fancy zip-up sweatshirt with a few extra features such as an elastic around the hood, an extra chest pocket, and thumb holes for when you're wearing gloves. It probably wouldn't cut it in really cold weather, but for most everyday activities this will be my go to jacket. I love the hood, and the pockets are nice and big. The best things about this jacket though are it's look and comfort. I'm 5'10" and got a large. It fits perfectly.
Very comfortable I have been living in it since I got it. Good fit, I am 6'4" 220lbs and the XL fits great arms and torso are long enough and not overly baggy like a lot of XL clothing. Not sure how it works as a technical piece of equipment but at the sale price it is an easy decision even if it is only used as casual.
Great casual hoodie. I rocked this all weekend on a ski trip to Silverton, CO. At night the temps dropped below 0 and this hoodie did the trick keeping me warm while walking the streets. This hoodie has found its place on my gear list as a must bring. The size runs a little small so I would order up a size.
Great Sweatshirt. I'm 6'1" 160lbs and large fits perfectly. It feels great, only problem is that it pills like mad around the hands and anywhere that rubs a lot. Other than that I love this sweatshirt.
I wear this thing just about everywhere, all the time. It fits great, its soft, warm, and just a great hoodie. I'm gonna be super bummed when it finally wears out on me...lets hope that doesn't happen. Also, I hope they come out with some more of these things down the road, I will fo sho be picking up another when they do. If you're a big boy I wouldn't wait a minute to snag up whats left of these things, you'll love it.
I was wondering the same thing, but it's 90% polyester and only 10% wool, so it shouldn't be a problem. I have a sweatshirt made of the same material that didn't shrink after one wash, but I really can't say for sure that this one won't.
Great hoodie! First impression thought it wouldn't be very warm because it is not real thick. Wore it with a rime pullover and t-shirt in 30 degree weather and was plenty warm. Nice and long arms with thumb holes which will make using as a layer much easier. Was unsure of sizing(6'1" 195) but went XL because it was all that was left and fits nice, arms are a bit long but better than being short! Love backcountry gear always more than exprected at unbeatable prices!! Thanks backcountry and keep up the good work. They have the best customer service anywhere hands down!
I bought the Graphite and was expecting more of a dark grey, but it is pretty much black...but very pleased with the quality of this hoody. Love the thumbies. At 6' 2" + 185 lbs, I went with an XL and love the fit. But I like a larger fit. I definitely wouldn't pay full price but for $32 bucks, its a steal.
I am 6'5" and 200lbs, and the XL fits perfect (I wish my Siphon Primaloft jacket fit this good).
Super comfy, soft and warm, the hood is the perfect size, and the nifty hidden thumb-holes in the sleeves are a nice touch (although a bit small for my thumbs).
The two slight misses though is the lack of a drawcord in the waist, and the mesh backing in the pockets.
The bottom hem is fine, but with out a little elastic or drawcord, kinda curves outward, but just slightly.
I read another mesh pocket comment before I bought this, and thought the guy was just being picky. BUT... he was right, the mesh pockets offer no warmth to your hands. Its hard to explain, but its true.
I am not one to leave reviews for products online, but i had to for this one. This sweatshirt is nothing less than STELLAR. Everyone (including me) loves hoodies right? Most have these problems tho: they shrink after 5 washings b/c they are made of cotton. never quite long enough to allow movement without creating a draft down ur pants. colors fade, etc. This bad boy put an end to my quest for the perfect hoodie....polyester/wool blend- no shrinking, long enough for lots of movement while still covering you, sleeves are long (but not too long) and have thumb holds to keep hands warm on frigid days, adjustable hood like most high-end shells. I bought 2 when they went on sale recently, but i have to say i would pay the original price ($100+) for this hoodie if i had to buy another one! Its just that good. Very warm, sheds water, looks A++ around town. I am 5'9, 175 pounds & bought Large size- fits perfectly. Buy this and dont look back! One last thing, make sure to follow care instructions on label, do no put in dryer. Holiday cheers from beautiful NC!
5'11", 170 lbs., broad shoulders, Large is the right size. Agree it doesn't seem worth the $110 MSRP, but the 70% off price is worth it. Backcountry.com has been great to me and I'll continue to give them my business, but I do find them guilty of overpricing their items so that they can give "deep discounts." E.g. the Rime pullover. Love it, but no way it's worth the $150 original price. I always loved hooded sweatshirts, but hated that they'd still fit if I gained 100 lbs. This fits very nicely, seems warm, I do expect the fleece lining to pill because it feels a little cheap, but I look and feel good in it. Thanks again guys.
The graphite is waaaay black. I've checked the tag a few times and it does say graphite, but it looks black to me.----------I second Brian on this, I have "Graphite" and if it's not black, then the official black must suck the light out of a room.
I have no idea how american companies size their gear. I bought a medium charhart and a large backountry siphon hoody hoping one or the other would fit me. Both were way too big. At least return policy is good.
Update 2 years later - still my favorite hoodie / fleece of all time and my only complaint is that BC doesn't sell it anymore so no replacment is possible when that day comes...bad decision Backcountry...shame on you.
This is THE most well designed, best cut, not-at-all poop-sack baggy and comfy fleece I've ever owned. The neck zip area is well designed - goes all the way to chin without gaps due to the hood - thus far less air gettin' in than the normal fleece, plus the hood is good though just shy of perfect. Only complaint is that the hood length should just go a bit more forward / down toward the forehead - i have a tiny head and the cinch-line ends just above my hairline, but not a big deal with a tobog on.
I'm starting my 3rd season on this fleece / hoodie and love it to death...its the single best ever.
I love this jacket i wear it all the time. you can go from wearing it around town looking great to hitting the trail. i use it for everything like hiking, backing, search and rescue, and skiing. it is seriously a great buy. way worth the money!!
Just got mine today and I must say, I was a little skeptical when I bought it but I am amazed by the quality, fit, and feel. I'm 6'3" and 190 and the large fits me perfect. Length in the arms is wonderful and the athletic fit looks great. Not to mention the stlyish yet classic look and all the pockets! Gotta admit that backcountry.com amazes me again! Plus I got it in less than 3 days with standard shipping! You all rock.
So first of all, I'm 6'4 180lbs and own both a L and XL. The large fits a bit snug and only goes down to the hip while the XL fits like a more traditional casual hoodie and goes down a bit past my waist. Depending on what you're looking for in a sweatshirt -- size up accordingly. That being said I love the texture and warmth... a great deal when it's on sale!
What size should I get? I'm 5'11" 165lbs...fairly thin. I normally wear between a medium and a large. I like the mediums, but the arms are sometimes too short; larges tend to be too bulky through the chest
I wanted to like this hoody, and I did until it started pilling all over after only a few wears. I also wish there was a waist draw string. Otherwise, it's a functional hoody that is warm down to about 40. The hood is roomy and adjustable, the pockets are decent. Sizing: I'm 5'8" 140 lbs and the small is pretty tight fitting.
I loved the first one so much that I turned right around and bought another! The monkey thumbs keep the sleeves from riding up and since they are inside the cuff, my hand can stay all bundled up inside. I have a 43 inch chest and the large was a great fit. Its not loose but stretches well. Curious about the bagginess of the XL, I decided to order one of those too. It doesn't give me a whole lot of extra room but does fit a little baggy. Also I wear a size 33 in jeans, so I am not a slim goat skinny goat. If you are, then go for the large! ITS FREAKIN SICK!
I just picked this thing up from backcountry and I have not been able to take off. It's so comfortable, warm and good looking too. It's great for layering or just hanging out.
I read all the reviews. I'm 5'10", 185. I wear size 34 pants (36 in dress pants)... so I'm not all that slim. I got the Large and, while it fit perfect in the shoulders and upper body, it was huge around my stomach. Huge as in not even remotely "fitted." I may have just gotten a badly made hoody... who knows. I bought it on SAC, but I tried chatting with the backcounty customer support agents twice and both times they asked a million questions about what sizes I wear and then refused to exchange it (for another Large). Very disappointed. I wanted to love this hoody but now I must send it back. If you're buying this from SAC keep in mind you're responsible for shipping both ways even if they ship you a bad product.
My primary gripe is that the outside fabric started to pill up after wearing it about ten times. Also, I have to jam my hands into the pockets, they could have slightly larger openings.
Still, it has a great cut and is my first choice of the dozen or so hoodies I own. I am 5'-7" 155 Lbs and a medium fits comfortably but isn't baggy anywhere.
I bought this sweater in a small (I'm 5'8"ish and 127 lbs.), and it is pretty tight under the arms. The sleeve and torso lengths are perfect, but it feels a little too tight under the arms.
I decided to keep the small, and deal with it rather than try to get the medium (can't find a medium sized denim for the price I want).
This is a very nice sweatshirt for the price. It'll be great for the fall and early spring and will work for layering in the winter. Only issue is that the medium was too small. Usually, large is a little too big for my 5' 11", 165 lb frame. Highly recommended, however.
Perfect sweatshirt for those cold california mornings. The sweater is really comfy and the fit is good except for the arms which are reaaally long. I have fairly long arms but that didn't help. Still nice though :)
Very soft and comfortable! It is tailored for a more athletic fit, which is nice to not have baggy material getting caught on things when out hiking. I'm 6'1" and 190 and the large fits well, I would wait for it on SAC though
