I upgraded to this pack from a black diamond agent pack and love it! The included hydration bladder is awesome. The stash BC is by far one the most comfortable packs i have owned and makes long tours more enjoyable. It has plenty of pockets and storage space. Also the helmet carry works great and you can use it to secure others items as well. Included a picture of all the gear i was able to fit for an all day tour.
I have the little brother to this and love both of these packs. I also have the Kode 30 and chose this pack over the Kode for several reasons. This pack holds everything the Kode did only better. The shovel (BD deploy 7), probe (BD 265), saw (BD), kit, skins all fit nicely in the first pocket and the goggle pocket is pretty big. The main difference that I appreciated was the BCA was more streamlined. The zippers were beefier and there were not as many straps to flap around in the wind. The kode is almost over engineered in my humble opinion. I like simple, effective products. The insulated bladder tube sleeve is the best in the biz too. I had a little freezing at the rotating mouthpiece (it was also 0 degrees and I had not used the bladder for more then an hour) but after less than a minute of crunching on the ice and blowing back into the tube, it worked fine and did so for the rest of the day. Looking forward to using the pack on all my BC adventures. I have even used this on chairlifts and the slim profile did just fine. Great pack!
This is a fantastic pack. Plenty of space for gear and odds and ends. Great backcountry skiing pack, as well as everyday use. Best pack for the price. Get this.
If you have short feet, maybe. The pack is pretty narrow and not very deep. If you attach your skis in an A-frame configuration and keep your boots in the bindings, you won't have to worry about packing a boot inside.
This backpack does everything you need for day trips in the backcountry. I especially like the pockets on the hip straps and the back access to the main pocket. I wouldn't recommend using the hydration system in the winter, mine froze the first day I brought it into the backcountry. Now I just use Nalgenes.
Yes, it holds a snowboard very well. I hike with it all the time. There are two straps that come out from the grey areas and lock the snowboard down very well. It will also carry a split board in a multitude of ways.

The pack performs as described. Good water system with insulation to prevent freezing. Well designed. Great space for gear. The helmet carrier is helpful (only when carrying skis on the sides of the pack in A-frame style). The goggle pouch is a nice touch. The only limitation I found was carrying the skis diagonally. The lanyard on the bottom left of the pack does not tighten especially well. It was not terribly problematic, but the skis rode a little lower than would be ideal. Overall I enjoy that pack very much and this is a fairly minor critique (the only negative thing I could think of).
This is a fantastic bag. Tough material (have rubbed up against trees a bunch), awesome features (the helmet carry on the front is great), and the water has never frozen on me. Also, the bag can be massive or you can sinch it down really tight for a low profile on the lift. I've never had any problems with it being too bulky while riding up but the straps do get really long when it is tightened down. I recommend rubberbands to keep them in close.

The vertical board carry straps are sturdy and the exterior is a nice wide nylon cordura that is super tough to slice through, snowshoe crampons ruining your new pack won't be an issue. If you end up with the stash you'll be happy, I use it for touring and it hasn't disappointed
Check out the Mammut Nirvana line, has all your avi tool pockets and great features! Most vertical snowboard carry systems will easily adapt for snowshoe mounting as well. I often snowshoe up carrying my snowboard and swap for the ride down. Hope that helps!
bca has completely reinvented this pack. simple yet extremely effective, it has everything you need for a day in the backcountry. super comfortable with a great back panel and just the right amount of pockets. the avy tool pocket is perfect for my bd deploy 3 shovel and bd probe. the main pocket has two entries, making it super easy to get to your gear. a overall great pack that can hold its own vs bd, dakine, and osprey.
The avy gear pocket (BCA calls it the Mudroom) is too short for my Voile Telepro shovel handle and my G3 probe. I am very disappointed because this is an otherwise very nice pack. I feel like the Telepro is sort of the industry standard shovel and that ski packs should fit it.
Perhaps there were some modifications to the pack since this review because I did not experience these issues at all. I found all of the pockets to be of adequate size and to perform totally as well as I could have hoped for.
