For someone who is 5 feet 5 inches, is the size 158 too big ? He's still going to grow a bit more.

Its more of a weight issue, the board keeps you a float and bends certain ways to control your turning and speed. I ride 156 and that includes people between 125-175lbs. When it is a question of wide or not, if your boot comes off the board it can catch the ground when turning but you have to have a pretty big shoe. I am fine with a size 11 boot on a normal width board.
