The Arc'teryx Women's Hercules Hooded Softshell Jacket includes a high-loft polyester interior for maximum warmth and an air-permeable shell for increased breathability. Basically, this Arc'teryx jacket helps you stay warm in frigid temps without causing you to overheat during aerobic activities. The Hercules Hooded Softshell Jacket's stretch-woven Polartec Power Shield shell fights off moisture and moves with your body as you hike, climb, or ski.
This jacket is nice! After reading reivews on several different sites regarding the slim fit, I decided to order a medium. I have an Arcteryx Alpha SL, Alpha LT, Beta SL, and Atom LT--all size small. I'm 5'4" and 105lbs. Turns out the medium is just right. It's only slightly large around the hem, but can be adjusted with the elastic bungie. I'm sure I could wear a small, but I wanted this to fit like a jacket, not a sweater. I don't like form-fitting clothes. If you do, then go with your regular size. The jacket is beautiful and feels great on. I can hardly wait for fall!
Got my Hercules Hoody today and I am 100% pleased. Great middle layer for under my hard shell. Comfortable, soft, flattering lines- total package. Longer shirt tail back to keep kidneys warm- great for snowboarders. Got the Caramel at a great price- color is a warm buttery yellow/gold- not at all garish or showy. Plenty of room in the shoulders/arm pits for broad shoulder girls and not baggy in the waist/ hips. Order up if you're between sizes and want to make sure there's room for a thicker base or merino layer. Arms are adequately long- mine are ape like and the cuffs still brush my wrist. Best of all it's made in Canada, not a trans-pacific sweat shop and I didn't have to warm the planet by shipping a 3 pound coat 12,000 miles.

I am 5'5" and weigh 120 lbs. I read a lot of mixed reviews about the sizing for this jacket, and ended up ordering the small. Will this size be okay? I don't want it to be too snug but I don't want it baggy either.
I'd say a small is perfect for you. My GF is the same size and LOVES her size small Hyllus-close enough to layer, but not too tight to wear by itself. You've probably got your jacket by now- how does it fit?
OH my gosh I am in love. This jacket is so cozy and it kept me warm hiking in the Sierra Nevadas of Spain in snow. Good for layering in super cold, and good with just a sports bra under on a crisp fall hike. I wear it around town with a t-shirt under in FL winter/Fall or when it rains(40-60 degrees). I was a bit concerned about the lack of pit zips, and it can get toasty if the weather warms up, but that's why you layer! 100% worth it, and you can't beat the sale for the Scarlet one! I am 5'6", 120lbs, and DD and fit in a small, but I do have small shoulders/arms. (I wear small/xsmall shirts) I returned a Marmot because I looked like a Marshmallow stuffed in a plastic bag it was so tight in the chest and too short in the waist. This one has a nice lean cut but enough room to breathe in the chest. It's also a a little longer in the back (barely noticeable) to keep the wind out of your pants. Oh I am just in love :) I even wear it around the house sometimes. It's like the comfort of your bed anywhere you go.
I love the fit of this jacket! I am 5'11 and was pleasantly surprised when I tried it on as arcteryx tends to run short. It has enough room for light layering too. Although I haven't had the chance to weather test it yet as it is August, I am sure that this won't disappoint. Very soft inside and the slate color is a deep graphite gray (almost black) with deep pink zippers (not red as pictured)...great go-with-everything color.

Just received the scarlet today for our daughter (hope she's not reading this). This looks great but she may prefer something just as warm but that's a little longer. Wouldn't HAVE to be Arcteryx but their quality has spoiled me. My Theata AR is five years old and looks (and performs) as good as new.
Anyway, I need a Plan B for Christmas. Any suggestions? Thanks.
When I've looked around in the past for longer cut softshell jackets, they seem to be hard to come by. I don't see anything from the typical outdoor manufacturers that look better than this. However, some other options in Arcteryx's lineup might include either the Scarabee jacket or the Stingray jacket. Both of these are made with Gore Softshell material. I wouldn't say these are softshell jackets by any stretch of the imagination, but they are waterproof and they do have a light-fleecy material on the inside (the Scarabee is a high loft and the Stingray is a low loft). Don't know if either is really what you are looking for, but it's the best that I can see. If you want something that is definitely warmer, look at the Sceptre jacket. It has a GoreTex ProShell outer fabric, with a Primaloft insulation. I have the men's equivalent, and it is awesome - fits well, not baggy and feels like a light blanket when you are wearing it.
Color: I ordered a slate jacket. The color is better in person, it's a dark gray and the pink is much darker than on the picture, it's not neon or anything. It's more like the color of raspberry flavored hard candy, or like the raspberry color in the VS magazines. I saw a coffee bean one at a store and it was more of a brown with a hint of olive green than a coffee bean color, and the zippers were more of a neon yellow than a creme color like it appears in the picture.
Jacket: The jacket is awesome, but it comes a little wrinkled as it comes half balled up and half folded in a bag, but the wrinkles go away after it's been hanging up for about an hour or two. It's the most comfortable jacket I've ever had. It keeps me very warm but doesn't make me too hot when it's not very cold.
Size: I did a lot of size research before ordering and got a lot of mixed information. I don't think Arc'teryx runs small for those with athletic builds, but I can see how a wide statured person could say that. The size charts work very well. I am exactly an XS by the size chart, am 5'5", and my torso length is exactly the length of my legs (sounds odd to mention but some people have shorter torsos and some have longer and it definitely matters for this jacket). If you have a short torso, you don't have to worry about this but if you don't and if you wear low cut pants like I do (pants seam sits at top of hip bone and curves down a little in the front at the button/zipper) and you don't want a sliver of your belly to be exposed to the cold if you move around you should get one size up from the size chart. But, if you want the jacket to come down to where it says it's supposed to, the waist (not the "natural waist" at the belly button, but to the top hem of low cut pants), then the size chart is good to go by. If you want some overlapage, then go up a size as each size increase gives you about 1" more of length in the front of the jacket (the back of the jacket is much lower as it curves down over your butt so your skin isn't exposed when you bend over). The jacket is loose enough using the size chart to wear a sweater underneath, but small enough to still be flattering and form fitting without a sweater. It's also a little wider in the waist than I'd like, but it's not too wide to not be flattering. If you use the size chart, it fits perfectly at the shoulders and hips, but just doesn't seem to curve in quite enough at the waist to fit as perfectly as it could. This might be beneficial to women with bigger chests than the size chart specifies or maybe women with a little bit of a belly, but was a bit annoying to me. Still, a great jacket overall.
I needed a warm jacket with a hood for winter hikingso I bought this jacket site unseen after reading all the wonderful reviews. The jacket met both of my requirements, except for one....size. I ordered small, my usual size; however, after wearing it a few times I realized it was a little too small....short in body and sleeves. I went to a competitor store in Denver and tried on a Medium before sending my jacket back for the next size up. But the Medium was too large. I've never bought a jacket online before because it's much easier to get the size right by trying it on in the store, but I thought I'd give it a try. The jacket itself is lightweight and very warm, which I think is a big plus for hiking. However, I'm a little disappointed with the size issue.
True to size. Not too long. Dynamite jacket. I've had several Arc'teryx jackets for various extremes, but this jacket is the best all around. Can be layered or worn with thin shirt. Just as described. Warm in frigid temps, without overheating. Great for biking or casual rain gear. I don't like the bulk of a hood, but this one is unnoticable. A bit pricey, but I plan on wearing it to my grave.
The Hercules Hooded Softshell Jacket is the best sportwear for me in this winter,The Hercules Hooded Softshell Jacket's stretch-woven Polartec Power Shield shell fights off moisture and moves with my body as me hike, climb, or ski.

I know its a pretty open ended question, but How water resistance is this jacket, also my women is 5' 2, 115 pounds, what size would be the most comfortable for her?
I'd give the Arc'teryx Hercules Hoody a 7 of 10 on water resistant scale- snow falls right off, if it's really raining, it will get wet. It also will block about 60% of wind, but is still super breathable. For sizing, Small will fit best, for all your women.
This is my first softshell jacket and first Arc'teryx item. I had tried it on at a store and could not believe the deal on Backcountry.com, that I bought it that same day online.
I wore it while skiing yesterday. It was mostly cloudy, probably sub 50 F. I wore an Under Armour long sleeve running shirt (compression fit) and a tank underneath the jacket, and never had to put on another layer. If I felt cold, it was from the breeze hitting my face while on the chair lifts.
A soft rain began falling as I rode to work on my bike this morning. The jacket kept me warm and somewhat dry. However, the inside of my elbows got wet and in the middle of my belly where water seeped through the zipper (small spot).
Even so, I love this jacket. My boyfriend is jealous. I can't wait to try it out in Yosemite during the winter months.
until my winter arc teryx arrives. I ordered this coat in slate for a trip to Alaska. I fell in love with the coat for too many reasons to list: warm, wind protection, hood, soft inside, kept me dry...the list can go on. I wore this coat motorcycling and ocean traveling as a base layer, I wore the coat as a top layer for making campfires, hiking 3200 ft, and traveling to the end of the road, McCarthy. It looks great, and makes me feel happy! It makes me look forward to a Wisconsin winter because I know that I will be warm. If I could, I would give this coat more than 5 stars.
WHICH ONE IS WARMER, OR ARE THEY THE SAME??? THE ARCTERYX GAMMA
WHICH ONE IS WARMER, OR ARE THEY THE SAME??? THE ARCTERYX GAMMA SV HOODY? OR THE HERCULES HOODY? THEY ARE THE SAME PRICE AND BOTH ARE POLARTEC POWERSHIELD HIGH LOFT.
The difference between the Arc'teryx Hercules and Gamma SV hoody is in the face fabric. The Hercules uses the 02 version which is less wind resistant, and more breathable. These two jackets will be about similar warmth without wind- Gamma blocks about 90% and Hercules about 50%. For layering Hercules is more comfortable, as outerwear, the Gamma offers more protection.
I bought this jacket for a Rainier climb I just returned from and it was the perfect soft shell! Like everything Arc'teryx makes, it's durable, fits well, and does what it says will do. It also has a nice shape. I've noticed a lot of jackets don't seem to be shaped well for women, but this jacket is. The fleece was warm and cozy and while I hung out at camp I just threw my down puffy on over it and felt great. I have the slate color and love it. Got tons of compliments on the mountain!
My new favorite jacket. Warm, comfortable and stylish. Great longer women's cut fit. The hood makes an excellent addition and enables this jacket to rank high as both an under layer and a stand alone jacket. I won't go anywhere without it.
