ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 1.0 AL Tent - 1-Person 3-Season - 2010 BCS

Item # ALM0087

Alps Mountaineering designers created the 3-Season Mystique 1.0 AL 1-Person Tent for those who want to venture out into the wilderness on their own but don’t love sleeping with bugs. Its two-pole design makes it a breeze to set up and the Mystique can function as a freestanding tent but holds its shape better when staked down. An adjustable vent built into the fly adds to the already excellent ventilation provided by mesh panels in the walls and door. Alps Mountaineering designers sealed the fly and floor seams to ensure you don’t end up sleeping in a miniature pond during a storm.

Hey,

You don't have to use a footprint but I would recommend it if you don't mind the extra weight. The floor is only a 75D and can wear down over time.

Near perfect 1 person backpacking tent

By:
August 29, 2011

Just came back from an overnighter with this tent and it performed perfectly. I even got a little rain overnight and can report no issues (I even forgot to seal the seams before hand and no drips came through). Great ventilation. Good design. The only think I don't like is that it needs to be staked to stay up, but I suppose that's what helps to keep it lightweight, so I can't fault it too much. It packs down pretty small and could go smaller if you put it in a compression sack. Well worth the $90 that it's currently listed at.

It's possible, but the two of you are going to be pretty much on top of each other with only 42" of width (at the wide end), and it sounds like a recipe for a really bad night's sleep. Another thing to consider is that if you're crammed up against the sides and it's raining, you're going to shove the tent walls into the fly, which means, they make contact, you get wet. My advice would be to get a 2 person tent and stay well rested, happy, in love, and dry. Hope that helped.

You can use this as a two person tent as long as you don't mind sleeping on top of each other & comfort is not an option. It only has 21sq ft of floor space. Remember it's only flame retardant so don't generate too much heat!

Self-contained tour

By:
June 17, 2010

I just returned home from a self-contained bicycle tour in the sandhills of Nebraska, and the Mystique 1.0 preformed flawlessly! It packed small in my panniers and and kept me dry in a couple of evening storms, I think a couple of my traveling companions will be ordering soon.

Sweet tent...ignore last review...the tent does stand by itself...like most tents! duh!

By:
January 6, 2011

Bought this on SAC for $60. Used it on a nice August evening in Colorado the night before climbing Culebra. It is as advertised and pretty awesome for less than $100. Great features, nothing uber fancy, but nothing lacking. The last post about "not freestanding"...are you kidding? Did you set it up wrong? Yes, you did. This tent is free-standing...like 99.9 percent of tents out there.

I think you are incorrect about the fact that it is free-standing. Can you explain how this tent stays upright without stakes?

ColoradoMan;
I have this tent, and it is NOT freestanding. "Freestanding" means that the tent will stay up completely, all by itself, WITHOUT staking it. This tent will not.

Is this tent really freestanding? It looks like it only has two poles running in the same direction without anything to hold it up the length.

This tent is NOT freestanding. You must stake it... or it's just a ground cloth with poles. lol
