ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 2 Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

Item # ALM0048

When the storm rolls in, dive into your Alps Mountaineering Extreme 2 Tent for safety. The three-pole design and guy-out vestibules create a super sturdy shelter during high winds, and when the rain starts, you’ll thank Steve for the sealed seams and urethane coated fly and floor. Who’s Steve? We don’t know—just some guy. The Extreme Tent features plenty of storage space for your mucky gear and mesh roof vents for star-gazing ease and breathability. Two doors prevent you from being trod upon when your tentmate wakes up in the middle of a toilet dream. Gear loft, stakes, and guy ropes included.

Bottom Line:

Wait out the storm in the comfort of Alps Mountaineering’s Extreme 2 Tent.

If you had to choose. Would it be the Alps Mountaineering's Extreme 2 or Lynx AL 2 tent. This will be an all purpose backpacking tent for any and all situations.

I would go for the extreme 2, it's a bit lighter than the lynx, and has a design that will stand up to poor conditions quite a bit better. The downside is that it is quite a bit smaller than the lynx 2, however, it is a totally adequate size for a backpacking tent. From what I gathered, the lynx looks like more of a fair weather, car camping style tent.

Backcountry does not offer the 'Extreme Floor Saver 2.0'. You should be able to find one on the internet with an MSRP of around $20.

It would be good to have more information like how much it weighs. When you are back packing this is very important.
Thanks

Any tent that has a full coverage fly, such as this one, can have condensation problems. Essentially, we put out a tremendous amount of water vapor at night. As the temps drop, that vapor condenses on the interior of the fly, or possibly even the inner wall of the tent, and then can be a problem. A few thoughts, avoid bringing wet gear into your tent... any added moisture will make this problem worse and leave your door open if there isn't a danger of rain. While some tents avoid issues by placing vents in key locations, this ALPs doesn't have those features and the large flat area on the top can encourage drops to collect and fall on the upper mesh, which may eventually lead to a few drops inside the tent. This doesn't mean it's a bad tent, just part of the game. If you really want to avoid the moisture problem, look for a tent with steeper walls (to allow the condensation to run down the sides) or vents in the fly.

Used the tent backpack around New Zealand. Lightweight, sets up in minutes, keeps water and insects on the outside looking in. Room for two if you're friendly.

I think this tent is actually the Extreme 3... but alas it gave the illusion that there was more than lil'o' me in there which was reassuring as this tent once up looks large which you would never guess from when you get it folded up. I think for one person it is like a mansion, for two its like being in a motel ;)

Check out the carnage surrounding the extreme 2. I couldn't have been happier with how it performed in 60 mph gusts.
