If you're just going to be car camping, why not treat yourself to some luxury? The ALPS Mountaineering Comfort Series Air Pad takes comfort to a whole new level. This extra-large sleeping pad features two valves and Jet Stream Wave Foam for fast, effortless inflation. Just open the valves and let it sit; a few puffs of air are all that's needed to finish the job. ALPS Mountaineering equipped the Comfort Series with a thick pillow area and a suede-like brushed top for comfort, and added PVC dots on the bottom to prevent slipping on your tent floor.
Bottom Line:
So comfortable, you might start sleeping on this thing every night.
Just recently purchased this pad before a drip to Fruita. Now normally I have a hard time sleeping while camping. The noises, the tight quarters, knowing that I have to venture out with the critters in the dark if Nature calls. However with this new Alps Pad, I had NO problems sleeping. Feels like you are on your bed at home, no Princess and The Pea effect here.
Definitely a car-camping mat as this thing takes up some serious room. But, it is worth it to have a great night's rest!
Great pad. very thick and comfortable. It is exactly a luxury pad. One of the two valve threads was stripped on my pad. Which ruins the pad entirely. My friend had the same problem on one of his alps pads. I think it is the one problem alps has in their pad design. the chink in their armor. If it wasn't for the bad thread on my pad I would have given this a 5 star rating. Sometimes you just get the short stick when ordering product
GREAT pad if you're staying within sight of the car, unless you don't mind hauling around the extra bulk for the added comfort.. DO NOT take this thing snow camping, the "moss" finish is a snow/water magnet.
Would be very comfortable for car camping if the seams didn't leak. Pretty much impossible to patch the numerous leaks around the edge of the pad. Really just a waste of money.
Good pad very comfortable. Not light or compact at all. Also two of the xl's will not fit in most backpacking tents. Other than that I have no complaints.

This is my second Alps Air Pad. My first was the long. Lost it...I was devastated. This time I got the Reg length off SAC and it is just as nice and even a little lighter, if you're worried about those precious grams. Great pad for any kind of camping and I also use it when I end up sleeping on the floor at a relative's house or hotels when there isn't enough beds to go around. The top side has suede and the bottom grippies. The pad wont slide around and you wont slide on the pad.
If size doesn't matter (meaning you can haul anything and you don't have to carry it up the trail), this little friend is amazing. I've bought 3 total and I've been extremely happy. We recently used them running the Epic Relay from Cache Valley to Jackson Hole. Very nice to throw down on any surface and be comfortable.
This pad is second in comfort only to my traveling futon. Ideal for car camping and river trips and anywhere weight and size is not an issue. Downsides are potential for leaks and inflation time of around two minutes of huffing and puffing. Great for headrushes.
Very nice pad! I am 6'3" 250lbs and slept very comfortably. I have had many Thermarest products, including the camp rest, which doies not compare inperformance or valye. I really liked the pvc dots on the bottom allowing the pad saty put on the floor of the tent and the nice surface that you lay on. I purchased the 3 inch thick model.
yeah know it was a great pad untill it got holes in the top the patch kit that comes with it doesn't work eather followed directions to a t but duck still proved beter o well would be fine for someone who uses it 3 times a year deff not for the week by week
same thing here, about 50 very tiny holes in the top, less than pinhole size. I called alps so see if they'd warranty it with not much luck. I thought it was a lamination problem because the holes were so tiny, they argued it was my fault so now I'm stuck with it.
I have had this pad for about a year now, and I must say I really like it. It inflates super easy, doing most of the work itself, it only takes a few breaths to fill it up. I have had it on a couple trips now and it has perfrormed great. Pretty comfortable, light weight, and fairly warm. I say fairly because on on particularly cool trip to Providence Canyon, GA the temps got down in the 40's and had some pretty heavy rain. Not sure if it was the pad or the bag, or the three sided shelter we slept in, but I did get a bit chilly. The only other real complaint I have is that it is bulky. But then again, its an inflatable pad, so there has to be some trade off for the comfort. Bottom line: great pad, great price (got the short version on clearance). Definately worth the investment.
Great, comfy pad for car camping. It's big for sleeping, and big for packing, much more comfortable and bigger than my 20" wide luxury Thermarest. It rolls up to about the size of a 6-8 person family tent! This is the one I take when I'm driving and have the room. House guests also rave about it. Only ding, which could have made it 4.5 stars, is the air nozzles are at the foot instead of up at the head where you could micro-adjust. May be why it was on steepandcheap.com.
As I get older it's more & more difficult to get a good nights sleep on the ground, and I've never really found an inflatable pad I liked well enough to buy. But this is a great sleeping pad for car campers, too big for backpacking, and I sleep like a baby now. Very stable, the rubber dots on the bottom keep the pad in place on the tent floor, and the ultra-suede on top keeps your bag from sliding off even without clipping. No crunchy plastic noise either, a big plus. Highly recommended for comfort and worth every penny.
