ALPS Mountaineering Clearwater Sleeping Bag: 35 Degree Synthetic - 2011

ALPS Mountaineering Clearwater Sleeping Bag: 35 Degree Synthetic - 2011 BCS

Item # ALM0093

The ultralight Alps Mountaineering Clearwater 35 Degree Synthetic Sleeping Bag weighs only three pounds, so you'll have to come up with a new excuse for lagging behind on your next hike. Synthetic MicroX+ insulation is made with siliconized fibers that provide maximum loft and insulation with minimum weight and bulk, and because it won't absorb water, it still insulates if it gets soaked in an unexpected downpour.

Bottom Line:

Light and fast during the day, warm and toasty at night.

This bag has worked well for me in conditions over the mid 50's, but I got too cold under that with it. The material is very soft and pliable, which is nice for comfort and storage. But around the zipper it gets caught if you are not very careful or go fast.

I took it in the mountains around Moab in Spring, and with a thin liner and all my clothes on under it in a tent it was still verging on too cold. I will be sacrificing it in order to build an underquilt for my hammock. Would be better for a summer bag.
