ACCELERADE Sports Drink maximizes the energy dynamic during exercise to help you train longer and harder without feeling as sore afterwards. Like conventional sports drinks, ACCELERADE supplies the carbohydrates and electrolytes necessary for rehydrating and replenishing spent muscles. Unlike conventional sports drinks, ACCELERADE contains a patented 4 to 1 ratio of carbohydrate to protein. This speeds the movement of carefully balanced simple and complex carbohydrates into your muscles for rapid and sustained energy. ACCELERADE also contains essential antioxidants to reduce post-exercise muscle damage. With 60-servings of powder, you'll have enough performance-improving sports drink to last you at least two months.
Bottom Line:
Hydrate with ACCELERADE Sports Drink and discover your muscles' true potential.
Got the blue kind and can't get passed the taste of fruity vomit. I found myself trying to dilute it with more water and it becomes even more awful if it gets warm. Not only that but this stuff gives me a stomach ache and nauseous which I know isn't due to not being able to digest protein since I drink whey protein every day. I guess you can't expect much from a sports drink with added protein, but there are a lot of better options out there and I wouldn't recommend this product, unless your a risk taker of course.
I have been buying and using this stuff for over 5 years. I love the orange - tastes like an orange creamcicle, or like orange sherbet. Just got the Berry flavor (blue) and like that too. It tastes like powerade blue but stonger, and a little more tart.
As for people who feel sick, I have never had this happen. I was at a race this weekend and heard some people's bodies can't process the protein in drinks like this with carbs - makes them bloated. I think this is what some of the reviewers are suffering from. If you have had a sports drink with protein and carbs in it, and didn't get sick - BUY THIS! If not, head down to your local shop, try a small serving of it and wait.
All in all this is GREAT stuff - if your system can take it...
One thing more - DON'T leave this stuff in water bottles too long - it grows fur and makes them smell AWFUL. When you get home from a long ride, just fill the bottles with a soapy water and let them sit. It will help you get the residue out.
For a sports drink with 4:1 Protein ratio, i think it's actually pretty tasty. It definitely helps me recover faster if I drink it on long rides. It's not as tasty as gatorade fruit punch, but you'd probably hate gatorade if someone dropped a scoop of protein powder in it. I've seen some complaints about Accelerade using sucrose instead of "designer sugars" like dextrose. Lighten up, simple carbs are simple carbs, and it's way cheaper than Cytomax. I've had mountain berry and lemon lime, and I think they're both decent but probably prefer mountain berry and it's frothy blue goodness. You can usually find a 60 serving canister on bonktown for $20 if you keep and eye out.
Just compared my Blue Raspberry powder (older) with the Mountain Berry powder on Accelerades web page, and they were the same, other then flavor of course. It also only has 56 servings instead of the 60 in the new packaging.
I've been using Accellerade for riding for over a year now. Me, I swear by it. I keeps my legs feeling fresh and bonking is a thing of the past. I prefer the Orange or Lemon-Lime flavors. Tried the Mountain Blueberry but the color and flavor didn't suit me. I generally take two 24 oz bottles with me and when the first is empty, I refill it with water. After four or five hours of feeding like a hummingbird, regular water is good for getting that furry feeling off your teeth.
It is a bit tougher to get the bottles clean though. That's about the only criticism I've got of this otherwise great product.
This product is often discounted by many retailers, so keep an eye peeled and you can stock up for cheap.
I have tried tons of different types of nutrition and Accelerade is my least favorite. It is way too sweet and left me with a really bad metallic after taste. I found it made me more thirsty and I had to pound down tons of water just to quench my thirst on really hot days. There are way better products out there that actually taste good and work awesome in terms of all around training/race day nutrition. I will never go back.
I've been training with accelerade for over a year. I first started using it for hiking, climbing and cycling, then started using it during triathlon training once I took up the sport 6 months ago. For me, it provides an excellent source of both sucrose and fructose which is critical to repleshing both blood sugar and glycogen supplies in your muscles. The protein ABSOLUTELY aids in muscle repair and recovery. There is no doubt I perform better and recover faster from long runs, swims and rides when I'm using Accelerade..As for those that criticize the sugar in this sports drink, I just have to laugh because it demonstrates a very poor understanding of sports nutrition. Read a book before you criticize something.I will agree however, that this stuff contributes to gas, but then again so do most protein supplements -a little gas is not a big deal given the benefit of the drink.I have never had the stomach issues that others have had, but I don't have a sensitive stomach. You need to test any product to know if it will affect your system in adverse way. Other than in these reviews, i've never head of this stuff upsetting people's stomachs, and the fairly large triathlon club i belong to are pretty big fans of this stuff. cheers.
I've been drinking Gatorade G2 Powder (1 packet to a bottle) for years now, and as long as I drank enough never bonked. Then I recently tried those little Clif Protein Balls, they're great, I felt great after the ride and recovered well after climbs. I thought it would be a good idea to combine the two (the balls are like $3/bag) so I picked up a tub of accellerade. 1 scoop to a bottle, so its rougly 3/4 strength as directed, it tasted ok, but felt a little slimey, and had a strange aftertaste. About 10 miles into my ride this morning, I started to feel bloated. By mile 12 I felt like I was going to throw up. I didnt puke, but I felt like crap for most of the ride. Then again, 25 miles completed at a brisk pace and my legs felt great, actually maybe even a little better than they did at the beginning of the ride since I was a little sore from the last ride. But overall I think I only felt good after I let out a huge belch at a red light and finally made it home. I'm going to give it one more try, because of how great my legs felt, but the stomach pain wasn't worth it...
This works great after long runs or hikes to replenish lost nutrients/minerals. Another thing that this was extremely useful for was masking the iodine taste in my water during week long treks. Not only did it refuel me, but it took the dread out of drinking iodine flavored water. Thumbs up.
I can tell a huge difference between the lifts, runs, and bike trips when I drink accelerade before and when I don't. It has some serious recovery benefits like the description above says. I always feel much less fatigued doing the same activity when I use this. The best way to describe the flavor is a blue raspberry/berry flavor and a bit of a whey protein taste as well. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it tastes. Drink it with cold water-not lukewarm. It makes a huge difference. This is a great product-just get it.
I really love this stuff. I tried the lower calorie version because it was on sale and wouldn't get it again. But the original Accelerade really works for me. I haven't bonked since I started using it for long rides. It works.

I have used a few cannisters of the orange stuff and I enjoy it. It's not the greatest taste-wise and takes some getting used to. The orange flavor reminds me of Gatorade mixed with soy milk. If you're not used to liquid protein consumption, it could give you some gastrointestinal discomfort, especially if you use it while exercising. The packaging recommends 1 scoop to ever 12 oz, I use it closer to 1 scoop to every 20 oz. Easier on the stomach and much more refreshing... at higher concentrations it feels a bit "mucusy" (like downing milk). I have used it after runs ranging from 4-7 miles, ergometer sessions, while snowboarding, an 20-30 interval training sessions, and notice myself feeling a bit fresher the next day. I am not a triathlete or a marathon runner or anything, so I don't know how it stands up under that sort of intense scrutiny, but for someone who stays relatively active at moderate to higher intensities, it has proven helpful.
i used it during training for the Seattle to Portland, and for the Cape Cod Marathon. worked great during all my cycling endeavors, and my long runs. I read a complaint on the CC Marathon site complaining that Accelerade was terrible, turns out that the marathon staff was mixing it at about 1/20th strength.
uhhh, so yeah. works well. and im a heavy sweater.
I have been a gatorade fan for the last 7 years and officially, the Accelerade Sports Drink has taken its place. The 4 to 1 ratio makes it great for a recovery drink, but this is the first recovery drink that I have had that tasted good enough to drink it on the run. I'll usually put a scoop in a 20 oz handheld before a trail-run, fill it with water, and be off.
I cannot say how all the flavors taste, but I have the orange flavor and it tastes sweet. Probably not the most tastiest drink, but unlike other sports drinks, this one doesn't make my stomach upset. I'd recommend this product to any of my friends looking for a sports drink and a recovery drink in the same container.
Tried this for summer road biking. Effective protein and electrolyte replenishing for endurance on long rides in the heat. Used during the ride for refreshment and again after for quick recovery. Very helpful on back-to-back day rides. Much better taste than other drinks of the same type. Different taste than typical Gatorade, but more effective for endurance and recovery. Have several containers of the Lemonade, but the other flavors I've tested are just as good. Highly recommend!
I used this stuff during workouts (2 two hour ones per day) and then used Endurox after one workout for recovery, and it worked like magic. When i used accelerade i still noticed a difference, performance was better (faster times) and more energy, and felt better after a work out. Only complaint is some flavors dont taste so good. I would get the blue stuff (blue raspberry I think) it tastes the best by far, not a big fan of the yellow-green or red, but they are still worth it, but I would recommend the blue. Get it its awesome!!!
Great tasting formula containing Maltodextrin - much better option than sugar like most sport drinks and more easily digestiable carb Vitimun E - great antioxidant Whey protein - to accelerate muscle development and aid in recovery Quick think - if your out for a long run or backcountry hiking Whey protein like milk can go sour so try to keep it cold or place the mix in zip lock bags. Enjoy.
This has been my go to energy/recovery drink for my long workouts. Even though it seems expensive it is a better bargain than gatorade, powerade, or any other mainstream sport drink. Dollar for dollar you are getting a much better bargain with accelerade, its better for you with the 4:1 carbs to protein blend, and it tastes pretty good too.
Maybe I've bought into the marketing pseudo-science, but I could swear that on long endurance events (2 to 12 hours), I feel that I have more energy when I use drinks with protein added, like Accelerade. I also think this makes a really great recovery drink -- really handy for getting some protein in you fast after exercise. The only reason I wouldn't give this five stars is that IMHO, the drink is too acidic. I think they've concentrated too much on trying to make it taste good. That said, I have plenty of triathlete friends who use this all the time for both racing and training.
I keep well informed on sports nutrition and I usually do my research before picking a sports supplement, but I bought some of this on impulse when I needed some good fuel for a 12 hour mountain bike race. BIG mistake, it gave me TERRIBLE gas (just ask my teammates and fellow racers within a 20 yard radius of me after each lap). And unfortunately this stuff was all I brought to hydrate with which put me in a very tough spot.
Upon further inspection
this "premium" and expensive hydration product uses complete junk ingredients. First ingredient is table sugar (seriously???) even more important (to my digestive system anyway) was the low quality protein concentrate used as part of its hyped 3to1 carb to protein ratio. Any premium product such as this, especially a product that is being digested during athletic activity should use protein isolate. much easier and faster to digest.
How any sports or health-oriented drink product could still use sucrose (table sugar) as a sweetener in such large quantities is beyond my comprehension. There is more sucrose in this drink than protein. There are better alternatives out there. This type of product should not be supported.
Out of curiosity, what do you think they ought to have used? The whole deal behind Accelerade is that they utilize a 4:1::carb:protein ratio. It's certainly better than if they used crystalline fructose, which doesn't replenish muscle glycogen and the excess is metabolized into fat (and of course commonly used in "health drinks" like Vitamin Water). It's better than HCFS, which even shifting the balance to 55% fructose and 45% glucose (compared to 50-50 in sucrose) has been correlated with increased obesity and insulin resistance. And use of something artificial like sucralose or natural like "stevia" would completely skew the carb:protein ratio and defeat the entire purpose of the product.
Granted there are alternate carb sources that could be used like dextrose or maltodextrin, but those are EXTREMELY high on the GI index (137, sucrose is at 92) and more useful for anabolic postwork out than endurance-related workout. Not something you'd want to sip on in the midst of exercise.
This is not a "health drink" to sip on. If you just sip on it around the home without working out, you will probably get fat and not be doing yourself much a favor as far as diabetes is concerned. But if you use it as intended as a recovery drink after strenuous exercise, those concerns are significantly mitigated. Now I'm not saying this is the end-all-be-all of exercise drinks, but you seem to either be confused about either the science of it or the intended use of it. If that's not the case and you simply think some other carbohydrate source would be superior for its purpose, I apologize, but that's not the sense I get from your comment.
there is supposed to be more sugar than protein, it's a 4:1 drink, so that only makes sense. also, sucrose is simply the combination of glucose and fructose. sucrose is used in most sports drinks.
